Lost Capture One 4.8.1 Pro Features

    This is known behavior, seen it here before. Has probably to do with the disk ID not matching the value in the license file (kind of copy protection) due to disk replacement. Deactivate the license from within the program and re-activate again with the same PRO key.

    Thank you for the reply. I tried to deactivate from within the program but got a message:

    "Capture One was unable to deactivate software on the server. Please, try again later. "

    I tried to do it from this web site under the License Management section of my account but it did not seem to do anything either.

    Try again (either option), their might be some delay in the web site license management page. Or go directly for Phase One support page; they sure will assist you.

    This is one of the stupidest bugs. Even Microsoft isn't that anal to deactivate software just because a hard drive
    was changed. Then of course the stupid deactivate feature doesn't work.

    I have discovered if you go into Program Data -> Phase One -> Capture One, there is a license2.enc file. Try
    deleting that. Otherwise the official procedure is deactivate from the web and reinstall into a different folder.

    Thank you for the tip. I'll try your suggestion tonight when I get home.

    I have uninstalled and reinstalled Capture One 4.8.1 twice. I checked to make sure that the C:\Program Files (x86)\Phase One directory was cleaned up but I did not think about looking under the Program Data directory.

    I used deactivated feature under the LICENSE MANAGEMENT section of this web site but that did not make any difference on my computer. All my attempts were recorded faithfully though.

    I was still getting the same error message when I tried to deactivate from my computer. When I uninstalled and reinstalled Capture One, it still stayed activated as the non-PRO version. I am going to try deleting the license2.enc file as suggested tonight. It make sense as uninstall may not have touched that file.

    I am guessing that the program itself is in the happy downgraded mode and locked itself down so deactivation attempts from the web site did not make any difference. Since it has locked down itself, deactivation from within the program does not work either. This does appear to be a bug.

    If deleting the license2.enc file does not work, I'll try reinstalling it to a difference directory or drive. If that still does not work, I'll be stuck as I do not want to reinstall Windows and start over again. Hope we never come to that.

    Deleting the file C:\ProgramData\Phase One\Capture One\license2.enc and restarting Capture One 4 caused the CO4 to be deactivated. Once the activation is done, it is back to PRO.

    It looks like deleting the license file is a better way to force the activation process. Reinstalling CO4 to another directory as suggested by the tech support would be another approach.

    That did the trick!

    Thank you so much for the tip! I am a bit surprised that is not suggested by the PhaseOne tech support folks.
