Capture One 4.5 Pro ?? and Capture One Pro 3.7.9
If indeed what I have on my computer is Capture One 4.5 Pro, it looks like I'll be running primarily Capture One Pro 3.7.9 as long as I can, so the question is, can both be on the same computer or do I have to remove the former?
Quite some time ago, I believe a statement was made by a Phase representative that certain features in Capture One Pro 3.7.9 would reappear in CO 4 Pro, but this does not seem to be the case. Among these feature requests were the implementation of the Rotation tool (where double clicking on the tool would allow for incremental changes to be made in the orientation of the image) and the Focus tool (where clicking on a part of the image in the main viewer would show the focus in the tool tab window of that particular part of the image at whatever % one wished). These promised features, as far as I can determine, are not currently available.
I'm not sure that the present implementation of sessions is a real advance over the tried and tested version in 3.7.9, and I guess that this assessment applies to the overall user friendliness of the UI. Its a shame that certain excellent features of 3.7.9, including the overall simplicity and organization of the UI and workflow have been left by the wayside.

well ont he features you are talking about I think 4.5 is a very big improvement over 3.7. by dobbelt clicking on the images you will get into 100% to check sharpness, isn't that what you wanted? - the rotate tool might not be able to take a number (I can't remember if it does) but you can freely rotate it which is new and a big improvement in my opinion. 0 -
I double click on the image and it doesn't go to 100% 0 -
Double click to zoom works when the hand tool is selected. You can also click the right button on the zoom slider. 0 -
Focus tool is back but just in a bit different form. Click on Window>Viewer and will open the viewer window, which is a new window that just shows the image and the top toolbar. You can then size this window to your liking (small like the old focus tool) and set it to 100%, while the main window is still showing the full image. This will also remember the spot you're looking at on the photo when you skip through photos like before (instead of constantly re-centering the image).
I think the only drawback to this is that it's more geared towards a dual monitor setup, as it is not embedded in the main window. If you're working on a single monitor, you will have to shrink the size of the main window to fit it in along side, which will probably make for a pretty cramped screen. I think the big fix here would be for Phase to simply add an 'always on top' setting to this window. Then you could just place it at the bottom of the tool pallet or something like that.0 -
I tried what you suggested. For my purposes, this does not come close to what the focus tool offered in 3.7.9 either in terms of functionality, effectiveness or flexibility. 0 -
Out of curiosity, what did the old one do better? Is it just being embedded in the main window, or is there something else? I did notice that the new version can only get so small... not as small as the old. Is that part of the problem? 0 -
With the focus tool panel open, you could rapidly check the focus of any part of your main image by clicking on it in the principal viewer. Also it was possible to make a completely resizable floating focus window, place it anywhere, and close the focus panel. It would always be in the foreground, but when properly resized remain unobtrusive, and according to need, you could click on any part of your image to check focus. If you changed images, the floating window would still be available, or of course you could return to the focus panel. This to me and my way of working was and is immensely practical. This change is emblematic of the direction that the program has taken and I can assure you it is not the sole problematic feature that I have encountered where there has been a loss of functionality and workflow effectiveness. 0 -
I totally agree! Months after my post and months after C1 4.0 was released, we are still not listened by PhaseOne.
Thank you very much!

I also completely agree.. The old focus utility was much quicker and easier to use... 0 -
i had similar concerns - until - Hold down spacebar and double click on the area you want to check focus. instant focus check. double click again and you return to full view. couldn't be quicker. 0 -

Great tip, thank you, and similar to what Jon suggested here. To add and glue: the double click to zoom works with the hand symbol only; pressing the space bar temporarily changes any other cursor into a hand.
