Lightroom
Maybe this is not the forum for this question...but her goes.
Can we expect any cooperation from Phase One in making Adobe Lightroom able to read/handle PhaseOne RAW files ?
I know I am not alone when I want to be able to use Lightroom with ALL my RAW files not only my Canon RAWs.
Jeff Schewe seems to think that PhaseOne are unwilling to cooperate with other developers... http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/webfo ... erthread=y
If that is the case, I regret that I chose P30 when \"upgrading\" my hardware.
Please tell me that I won't regret my choice.

From what i have heard, the PhaseOne rawformat is open for anyone that wants their raw-converter to handle PhaseOne-files. I could be wrong but maybe Adobe and Apple have other reasons for not handling PhaseOne files ...

We support a range of DSLR cameras, it would be hypocrisy if we said \"We should be able to read your format but you are not allowed to read ours\"
Anyone is allowed to do a RAW converter for Phase One and some has actually done it.
Adobe/Apple will ofcourse develop support for Canon and Nikon first because the customer base is simply larger.0 -
for clearing that up... 0 -
IMHO useless...same crap as Aperture...
No tethered shooting, so what is the big deal?
99% of my pro work is shooting into folders, converting into proofs for the client, converting the selection into tiffs, or giving the RAW files straight to the client.
These sw are maybe for grafic designers or photographers who love to fiddle around to make an \"impressive\" presentation to the clients...
cheers Nicolas
PS: more than anything anything else, I would love to finaly get tethered support for the D2x0 -
What may be useless for You may be very helpful to someone else.
I am into portrait photography and like the possibility to make a \"impressive\" presentation of the images to my customer. I also like the Lightroom functions better than Adobe Bridge/ACR where I have much of my workflow today when shooting schools/kindergarten. I know a colleguewho have had a brief look at Lightroom and then had same opinion as You, but after seeing a professional demonstration of the softwares capabilities changed their opinion totally, since there is so much to discover in LR. Since it is a new way to work compared to Photoshop/ACR workflow.0 -
I hear what you are saying...
but I believe that a post production software (that is what it actually is) should not be anounced as THE tool for the pros and if you are watching the Aperture promo video it looks as if the photographers were living in the stoneages before Aperture...
BTW most test tell that it is highly over rated...
I think if lightroom or aperture was part of C1, so to speak preproduction-workflow-postproduction, then it could be an interesting thing...
I must admit it does sound fascinating what you can do with your RAWs, unfortunately I just do not have the time for that...

While I really like C1 and use it almost 90% of the time, Lightroom is far from crap. Without getting into a tit-for-tat thing of quality of the processed files (I prefer c1 pro right now, but LR is close) there is one big thing Lightroom excells at. Processing time. LR, from my tests on powerbooks and powermacs processes file a FULL 3x faster. Not a big deal if you're looking at 1 or 2 files that need to be delivered but when my catalog jobs have 1000+ files that need to be delivered as full res TIFF's & on a tight deadline, it's a HUGE deal. We're talking seconds in LR vs. minutes in C1 Pro for large files (1DsMII, P25) per processed file with equal output parameters. As captures continue to get bigger and bigger this will only become more of an issue with C1.
That said, not being able to capture and the amount of time to build previews in LR keep C1 Pro far ahead of LR in my book. For now, that is...

sounds interesting the speed issue....
but why do they not include tethered shooting right from the start...? A feature I consider making this kind of software really professional. The same applies to Aperture... and A does not even support RAW files from medium format cameras... 🙄
All that makes it useless and more of a \"how to make my life more complicated\" thing...
just my 2c

No doubt, tethered is super key. And for me Aperture isn't even close for what I need. But LR does have some good points, esp. as a beta. I just can't figure the speed thing with C1 Pro on Mac's. The diff specs should give noticably diff. processing times. But really with my Dual 2ghz G5 only twice as fast as my powerbook and my powerbook essentially equal to the iMacs (inter or ppc), I think there's something amiss. Same files on my stock Best Buy Gateway 3.0ghz P4 XP machine process time equals my Dual 2.0ghz G5 Powermac which is RAID'd and has more RAM. Go figure.
PS- Not to open that pc/mac can o' worms...0
