Capture One crops my images
When I click on the crop tool in Capture One 8 (and previous versions), I find that at times it has already cropped a small portion of the image. why does it do this, and is there a setting or preference that will prevent it from happening?
Thanks
Thanks

This is almost certainly because Capture One is automatically applying a lens correction. In the lens correction tool, there is a menu you can get by clicking the ... symbol top right and you can choose disable default lens correction. Also if C1 has detected a supported lens and applied a correction you can change the drop down list from the name of your lens to "generic". This will include parts of the image that were previously excluded, but at the expense of getting distortion back.

Ian, Thanks
I see what you mean. Yes, when deselecting the lens correction, the crop goes away. However, the area cropped contains the useful edges of the frame. I have to go in and move the crop back to expose the whole image. It is not like the "constrain crop" selection in Lightroom that crops out areas that wind up outside the image area.0 -

Yeah, I don't understand that either. You should file a support ticket which is the only way to file bug reports or feature requests.0 -
Although this is the MAC section, and I use Windows, I am replying because I experience the same cropping issue. I am using Express (for Sony) 8.1 and I do not see the lens correction icon in the cursor tools. Documentation does not list it as a PRO feature. So, should I see it listed in the toolbar?
Maybe it can be added manually...I will have to check the documentation.
I do have a "Composition" icon that contains "Crop" and "lens correction" sections. There are check boxes for "Crop Outside Image" and "Hide Distorted Area" which influences how the cropping is done. Both of these affect how much can be cropped. I agree the default crop does seem to crop too much...but this might be related to keeping the original aspect ratio.
+VirtualRain ... did you raise a ticket for this? Did you get a response?0 -
I am having this issue, too on GH4 and Nikon d800. Very frustrating as I have to switch back to unconstrained crop tool and drag crop to edges so I can export the whole image.
The cropped area is not even in the same aspect ratio therefore the crop tool has to be set to unconstrained and it is takes 4 steps to drag all the crop tools to the different corners of the image.
I use Lightroom 5 with same cameras and do not have any issues. It is definitely a bug. Hope Phase One doesn't say it can't reproduce the "bug". It has been an issue since C1 7.0 -

Check the Lens Correction tool. On the tool's header, are there 3 dots you can click on so it will open an context or action menu? I ask because I am not sure the Express (for Sony) does have this. If so, select Disable Default Lens Correction.
If this all succeeds the lens correction will not be applied to NEW images imported. I believe it is the lens correction that causes the crop you are seeing.0 -

Perhaps the same issue as I mention in my previous post in this thread. Please try to follow-up as suggested in that post.0 -
I disabled lens correction and it masked the cropped areas.
However, if I apply lens correction I can extend the cropped area by .47 inches in the horizontal direction and .63 inches in the vertical direction.
How do I get Capture One to apply the lens correction and maximize the image area without cropping in? I would prefer this method vs. uncorrected image using 12-40/2.8 Olympus.0
