    Hi Peter,

    1. Mac or Windows and what OS version?
    2. How are your xMedia media rendering preferences set, manufacturer or OS?
    3. Have the D70 raws been annotated in any software, including Nikon Transfer?
    4. Any chance we can see a sample NEF you are having issues with?

Peter, try a file transfer service like YouSendIt.com, send it to yourself, you receive a link in the mail and paste that link in a post here.

Q: are all D70 NEFs affected. If not, please sent both (one each). Tip: zip them together in a single file before uploading.

Not all Nefs are effected, but usually all in a particular folder. Here is a link to the public folder in my .Mac account. (Ziped folder: : "Nef files")

9158 - not recognized by Expression Media

    9828 - worked fine in E Media

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi Peter,

I just managed to put both images in a EM2 catalog (see at ).
It's not 100% representative because i'm working on a windows version of EM.
Anyhow, no strange things here. The only thing i noticed was that you have changed some IPTC fields on 9158 en none on 9828. Maybe it's the software you made these adjustments?

Did you trie to make DNG from the problem-images with Adobe's DNG converter. Maybe you can use them?

    Succes,
    Roelof

As far as the IPTC fields, these files have been through Photo Mechanic, processed in an earlier version of C1 and possibly Lightroom or an earlier version of iView Media, though I almost never use Lightroom for metadata. That's PM's job. Maybe I should just try to build a new catalog of these files from scratch. These are 4-5 year old files. I have been reprocessing some earlier personal work with Capture One 5 because of the better quality and tool set.

    Thanks,

    Peter

    Hi,
EM2 not reading Sony RAW files too, I began to examine the Expression Media 2 and found that it can import to the catalog only JPG, RAW from the Sony Alpha 700 do not import. Trying something hit download is unsuccessful, the WIC codec for Sony is only for the Alfa 900 and Vista. I'm doing something wrong?

Although EM2 supports a lot of proprietary RAW files, I would suggest to convert all of them and always to the DNG format.
I was inspired to do this by Peter Krogh in his 'The Dam Book' and a lot of his argumentation can be found on the dpBestflow site. The stuff about DNG can be found here:

    Peter,

Do try a new catalog but I think the issue is Expression Media is not compatible with Snow Leopard. If this is your problem then you need to wait for an update from Phase One.

Both your NEFs successfully catalogued in Expression Media 2 on my system using Mac OS 10.5.9. I tried Mac OS 10.6 and went back to 10.5 solely because I found issues with NEF files in Expression Media. Microsoft were working an a Snow Leopard update for Expression Media years ago but we know development ceased soon after.

Capture One and Lightroom do not alter files. OK, Lightroom can alter capture time. Otherwise if there's a metadata issue it will likely be Photo Mechanic which does alter raw files when you embed metadata.

    rmoorlag,
Thanks. 😄 The problem is solved, ARW, when converted to DNG, I opened in the EM2.
Btw: I did not know that Sony's ARW is so exotic RAW format.

If I tell EM to "rebuild item" it renders the image, so for some reason it chose not to render the previews for certain folders of images. The previews are really quite slow in appearing, though. These were all older files shot with a D70, the files shot with the current cameras and folder of tif and jpg files have all rendered as they should. Be that as it may, I am looking forward to the first version that comes directly from Phase One's engineers.

Thanks for the help and advice,

    Peter
