UI, adjusting curve points using the arrow keys
Hi,
Can't seem to figure out how to consistently adjust cuve points using the arrow keys. Sometimes it works, sometimes the keys move between layers (up/down) or prev. or next image in catalog (left/right). Any idea what I'm missing?
Kind regards, Thorir

Do you always have the curve tool active and in "focus" when using the arrow key?
It's not something I have ever used but a quick check on my system shows that the selection, provided there is an active point if the curve, is pretty sticky and works consistently.
However I am a Windows user so my experience may not be directly equivalent.
From you description I might wonder if some local user related configuration file might be slightly imperfect. userconfig on Windows. I think plists on Mac? Often they are a good source of erratic behaviour if some internal links have become questionable.
Hopefully someone with Mac experience will be along soon to offer their advice.

Thanks for input.
Not sure what you mean by “in focus” but I always have a CC curve like this on its own layer, and float the curve panel while working on it. I select the cuve points and sometimes the points respond to the arrow keys but sometimes the keys control layers or images.

In focus means the the "window" - in this case the tool you want to use - is the active window (or, more generically, screen area) for which input commands will be actioned. In the case of the Curve tool and active point on the curve becomes the "focus".
Actually when I tried it on my Windows system I found it quite difficult to dislodge the effect of the cursor keys to be any else than the Curve tool unless I specifically selected a different edit tool rather than, say, the browser.
Macs may have different approaches in the area. But if they should not then an active internal setting might be compromised.
(As an aside I also noted that the shift key acts as a modifier for the rate of adjustment.)
So far as I can see there is no option for a dedicated alternative keyboard shortcut control. Realistically, given the nature of curve adjustment, that is not a great surprise.

I have tested this on a Mac and it is working correctly for me. Create or click on a curve point and the arrow keys move the point. The only way I could get CO to change layers is if I click on another layer in the layer tool.

Tried a few things (with the curve panel floating, coming from layers):
- When creating the points and moving them around, the arrow keys work as expected.
- As soon as I've gone back to layers (or levels, for example) and then come back to the curve panel to edit (still floating), it appears as if the panel isn't active, even though I can select the individual points on the curve. At least trying to move a point with the arrow keys is unsuccessful.
- If the panel is docked however, it all works as expected.
So the persisting luxury problem seems to be to figure out how to edit a curve in a floating curve panel. Which would indeed be convenient but not on any top–ten list of problems to fix.
Thanks for input!

So it sounds like you have clicked on the floating tool and that has activated the points on the curve for the "mouse" activity but the overall tool is not recognised as the active window. Perhaps whatever is below it on screen is?
I tried it on my Windows 7 system.
If I make the mouse cursor leave the floating tool but do not invoke anything else the active point on the curve still works with the arrow keys.
If I do something else and return to the curve tool there will be no active point selected (unfilled orange squares). So no keyboard adjustment. Activate a square (filled orange square) and the arrow keys are active for it once again.
Are you seeing something different to that? Seems that you are based on your description.
It may be time to create a Support Case.

Fairly new to C1, didn't know there was a float button. What I've done was to simply drag the cuve panel out of the tools column (on the left in my case, and by default if I'm not mistaken) and over the image area. This gives me the opportunity to make it a little bigger and have it visible while changing between panels.
Not sure if this is something just happening on my end. Computer is aging and OS is not up date so the reason may lie there.

Thorir,
You can drag a tool out of its Tab location as you have done and put it back later (or not - but if you want to make that a permanent change you will need to save your workspace with your own naming convention rather than a standard C1 name).
Or in the "Window" menu there is a "Create Floating Tool" option that allows you to add a tool or multiple instances of a tool to your screen(s).
Multiple instances of a tool are quite useful if the tool has several sub-tabs - like the colour channels in Curves and Levels tools.
You can set the tool to "stick" together by moving them to touch horizontal edges together and then move the whole stack as a single block of tools.
HTH.
