V9 vs V20
Several years ago I was using Capture One, mainly as a means of capturing images from my digital back which I have tethered to my computer.
For various reasons, I haven't been able to get back to those projects for five years. I'm just starting to get back to working on them now.
I recently launched and updated my Capture One program software. It seems to be working fine. I'm running Capture One 9 DB version 9.1.2.16 (is that the latest?).
While updating, I became aware that Capture One now offers a V20. I'm running the correct software on hardware with specs well above the minimum required for this version.
However, it seems I am not allowed to upgrade from V9 to V20. Or at least a dialogue box come up that states I don't have any upgradable versions of Capture One.
Do I have to buy the program all over again to get the latest version?
Is there any compelling reason I need V20 over V9?
My main purpose for running Capture One remains the same. With my digital back tethered to my computer, I am able to set parameters on my monitor and the captured shots move directly onto my hard drive.
Obviously, Capture One has excellent features for photo manipulation. But generally, I'm more comfortable working in PhotoShop. I've been using it since it's the very first release, so it's just easy for me because I know my way around the product so thoroughly.

Hi Kent,
Fyi, version 20 is actually version 13. I think there are special upgrade prices two versions back, i.e. from version 11. At least for the non DB versions, as a digital back owner you might have special conditions I don't know, maye you contact the Phase One (not Capture One) company, note they seem to have split this recently.
Compelling reasons why you need an upgrade? If it works fine for tethering then I would say no. Coming from version 8 Pro on Windows, I would say version 11 was the most stable and performant version (I skipped v12 though). V20 has interesting editing tools and a good rendering engine, though I cannot speak for P1 files.
C1 software forum has moved to here but maybe DB onwers scan and reply in the old hardware forum https://forum.phaseone.com/En/index.php?sid=b392d05f445f9d4716463e2b8530f396

Kent.
As BeO wrote, if you are using Capture One with a Phase Digital Back (maybe subject to which back it is in some cases for very old backs) you have access to the "DB" type of Capture One versions. These days, for Phase family hardware users, you obtain an activation key for it by contacting Phase and providing the model and serial number of your back as far as I am aware.
You many need to check the version of Operating System software on your Mac
There is no reason that I am aware of to suggest that you could not instal and test V20 (Build V13.1 .etc.) and try it without affecting your V9 installation. For Phase family digital back users the software is free so far as I am aware.
