Connecting Canon 5D Mark IV to MacBook Pro

I'm trying to tether 5D Mark IV to macbook Pro from HDMI camera output to laptop.  laptop doesn't recognize the camera.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    I think you need to tether from the camera's USB port. AFAIK, HDMI doesn't support tethering. With a 2016 or newer MBP you'll need the cable that came with the camera + a USB-C to USB-A adapter of some sort.
