Capture One 20 = no D850 or A7RIV tethering?

Running OS X 10.15.6 and C1 13.1.1.24.  Just ran a quick test and my D850 was recognized and worked fine as soon as I powered it on.

Can you check in Capture One menu > About the mode Capture One is running. If it is saying Capture One for Phase One than that is the cause of your issue. If it says Capture One Pro, the cause is something else.

    @bobW

May I ask you if you can use the focus controls in C1 when tethered to the D850? All arrows < << and >> > are greyed out except auto focus AF. I have tried a variety of Nikon lenses here with D850.

    Thanks for clarifying.

You are correct.  When I first turned on the camera, C1 recognized it but I also could not focus manually.  I realized my focus select mode on the camera was in manual so I switched to auto but still nothing.  Then I turned on Live View on the camera and cycled the AF/MF selector on the camera and suddenly the MF buttons were no longer grayed out.  Not sure exactly what the real 'fix' was but fiddling around with the Live View and AF/MF selector seemed to unlock whatever state the camera was in.  Hope this helps.

Another update.  I went back in and tried to duplicate my prior success but once again I had no manual control in C1.   What I figured out is that you have to first click on the Live View button in C1 (small video button next to main Capture button).  That opens a Live View window then just ensure you are in AF on the camera body and you should be good to go.  Once you exit the Live View in C1, the manual focus button will again be greyed out.  Good luck!

    @bobW

I finally figured it out (after 3 years ;) and you bobW pointed me in the right direction. Thank you so much!

    Here is the trick:

The Nikon D850 has two so called 'Live View Focus Modes' to choose from in camera (those are AF-S and AF-F)!

If in the camera this mode is set to 'AF-F' the focusing in live view within C1 with the arrows will not work and the arrows are greyed out. If this mode is set to AF-S all works as designed.

Now you have to choices to make sure it works. Either go into live view in the D850 (not connected to C1) and change from AF-F to AF-S (see the below excerpt of the Nikon D850 manual on how to do this). Then connect the camera to C1 and go into 'live view' and the arrows will be available and working.

.... or you could to this change directly within C1.

You would therefore have to go into live view in C1 with your D850 attached and make sure that you have the 'Camera Settings' tab available in C1 live view. Within this tab you will find the 'Camera Information' section and there you will have to make sure to set the 'Live view AF mode' to AF-S (see the below screenshot). Then the arrows will work.

One final reminder. Make sure you have the focus-mode selector (the switch on the body) of your D850 set to AF and that your lens is set to Automatic as well.

That's all there is and bobW thanks again for your input!

    Did you try this?

hope you got your cameras connected.

Glad to hear it's working now and thanks for the info you discovered in the process.  I don't typically use tethered mode but will certainly keep this in mind should I need it.

    Yes, it's the Pro version.

Mac is now 10.15.6 but still no tether in CO20. System Info still shows cameras when they are connected. CO12 still works fine.

Tried clearing the camera driver cache per the above link. Still no tether.

OSX 10.14.6 and CO 13.1.0 > all is fine here too!

But there should be NO CARDS in the camera!

Interesting info regarding the cards not being installed.  Was not aware of that one but then again, I've only dabbled in tethering.

My son and I were out to shoot the comet with the MBP
and he complained that the usual ease of operation was
no longer. He checked again that cards were onboard
when I reminded him to take them out and all was OK.

Certainly have to keep that in mind in the future.  Thanks!

We do a lot of work — in studio and on location — and it seems
that the camera can direct the recordered data only in one di-
rection: the inner card(s) or an external destination.

So none of the above worked. Then I just read this post:

    https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360012915757-No-camera-Detected-on-Mac-Os-Catalina-

    Fix summarized here:

    • You do this by running the below commands in the Terminal:
    • tccutil reset SystemPolicyRemovableVolumes com.captureone.captureone13
    • tccutil reset Photos com.captureone.captureone13

and it fixed the issue for me.
