Synching Catalogs between two computers
Hello
I have Capture One 20 Fujifilm installed on my laptop and desktop both running macOS Mojave 10.14.6. Is there any way to get catalogs to sync from one to the other automatically? Or do I need to copy the catalog to a flash or external drive and synch them that way?

No, there is no mechanism for automatic synchronization between different installations. It will also not help to just copy the catalog between the MACs, because the catalog then does not know where the pictures are and loses the link to them (assuming that your pictures are in a folder structure that is referenced in the catalog and the data on both systems are different).
One solution could be to save both the catalog and the picture folders on an external drive and access them alternately from both MACs, so to work with a common and identical data. However, this is not a preferred solution for performance reasons. There are many posts here from users who complain about bad performance in such a scenario.

Another solution could be a cloud drive like Dropbox and others for the catalog. The images are preferably on network-attached storage (NAS).

I use dropbox to sync my sessions and images.
I shoot tethered directly into a 1: SHOOT folder, which is stored within dropbox, within a few seconds that is backed up to dropbox and sync'd via the LAN to my other MAC, from there it is copied to a local NAS.
Before I can even make a cup of tea all of the files are on my main processing mac ready to work on, backed up offsite and on my local NAS and dropbox does all the heavy lifting.
I then move the files to 2: To EDIT and have that folder set to online only on my tether computer so they are stil backed up online but not on my tether station.
Hope that helps. Oh and make sure you close C1 on machine 1 before trying open on machine 2 and vice versa.

I use an external LaCie portable drive to store my Capture One files. I back it up to another LaCie portable drive. I have Capture One Pro 20 installed on an iMac and on a MacBook Air, both using macOS Big Sur 11.1 and was planning (hoping!) to use the laptop to do some organizing/editing when away from home. I attached my LaCie drive to the MacBook and was able to locate all of my Capture One files. When I opened Capture One Pro it wasn't "seeing" the drive. I'm afraid to take a guess at what I should do as I don't want to mess up my drive which is functioning well. (My drive was fine when re-attached to my desktop.) Any suggestions?
I thought I would be able to do work on the laptop, save the work on the LaCie drive, then use the drive on the desktop and continue working. In theory, it seems a logical thing to be able to do.
Many thanks for your help!

Bernice,
Where are the source files for the edits? In the catalog or external and referenced?
Could it be that the drive identity does not appear as the same "name" when connected to the MacBook?
Can you open the Catalog at all? I'm not sure whether "not seeing" means cannot even see drive, cannot see the catalog on the drive, or can open the catalog but not see the source files.

Everything is on the external drives. The name of the drive appears correctly when connected to the MacBook. And I can open it and see my files. BUT Capture One the MacBook doesn't recognize the drive.

Navigate to the catalog and try to open it - does the Mac invoke Capture One to open the file?

YES!!! It worked! I then made a few changes to some files, saved them and backed up the catalog before exiting Capture One. I realized I had to direct Capture One to my LaCie Drive, rather than the folder on the laptop that Capture One wanted to use, and the catalog was backed up successfully. I then used the drive on the desktop with Capture One and the changes that I made using the laptop were there!
Thank you so much for your help!
