Importing and editing photos

I am finding 2 issues that I find frustrating.

The first is when importing photos: When I want to select which photos and would like to use the Shift, arrow down, to select multiple consecutive ones I cannot use this option anymore. Can anyone tell me why?

The second is when editing using the cropping tool. If I want to arrow down to the next photo I can't I have to use my mouse to select the next photo. Can anyone tell me why?

    Right Arrow or Cmd-Right Arrow goes to the next photo for me.  Are you using a custom keyboard layout?  I don't see down arrow mapped to any function.

    This is something fixable in the keyboard shortcuts I think!
