Which Mac Book Pro model on 16" and 13" is the best cost effective to Capture One?
Hello,
I'm Japanese Photographer. I am planing to replace my old MAC, Mac mini 2012, to new mac book pro.
The resolution of my main camera is 24Mpix currently. Although I want to make Movies with new mac book pro 16" model, it's out of my budget...So, please let me know which current Mac Book model is the best cost effective to develop Raw with Capture One?
Best Regards,
Kazu

I think they'd all work fine. Of course faster processor, GPU and more memory help. I'm on a loaded 2019 MBP and a 2012 MBP, both running Mojave. From what I see:
- CPU helps a lot: both number of cores and clock speed. The base configuration should work well, but you might consider a faster CPU. It depends on your time constraints.
- Memory: My MBPs have 16 GB (2012) and 32 GB (2019), and I have a Mac Pro with 64 GB. From the memory usage I see, 16 GB is fine. Only get more if you're really worried about it. Frankly, back when hard disks were "disks", their slowness made having more RAM important. But the fast, soldered SSDs in today's MBPs don't suffer from noticeable page/swap delays, and macOS is pretty good at managing RAM usage. The only reason I can see for getting more than 16 GB is if you're running several RAM-hungry apps simultaneously—like video editing + C1 + maybe something else.
- GPU is nice to have, but not essential. Also, when a program uses the GPU, battery life drops dramatically and the MBP heats up a lot. I find that even plugged in, the power adapter can't keep up with the battery drain. So if you're budget conscious, consider skipping the dedicated GPU and suffering a little longer processing time.
I use my MBP with 53, 30 and 22 mpxl cameras just fine. Again, though, it gets really warm when I'm doing a lot of editing. My MBP has a 8-core i-9, 32 GB RAM and a Pro Vega 20 GPU.
For your budget, consider buying a refurb unit from Apple. In the U.S., you would go to the Apple Store, find the tiny "Refurb" label at the bottom of the page, and shop. I don't know if it's the same in Japan, though. Good luck!

Hello Abbott,
Thank you so much your advices. It's very helpful for me!
Thank you again! I must reconsider that I will do 4K HD video editing or use any High-End(large Mpixel) cameras in the near future for choosing the 16inch MBP. if they will NOT be need for me, I intend to choose the 13inch MBP upper model.
Thank you!
Best regards,
Kazu
