Is there a way to replace raw files on a session with smaller DNG files?
I've been trying to reduce the bulk of my backup and found that adobe's DNG converter can reduce files quite a lot from its original size (Nef to DNG)
Is there a way i can "exchange" my NEF files for DNG without losing all my capture one adjustments and ratings?
It would be awesome if i could replace a 1500 pictures session of 35mb NEF files each to 1500 DNG about 15mb each..

I don't know of a way, other than a very manual and laborious method of creating a preset/style for each of the edited images in the 1500 and then converting to DNG and then reapplying the individual presets to each.

There's the Adobe DNG converter available for free, can't recall the site address for it but a Google search should suffice.
If you're going to go down this route of converting your .NEF files to .DNG please keep backups of your original files as I did this a long time ago (converted files with no backup) and regretted it ever since.
Just my opinion.

Sorry to tell you: There is no eysy way.
Fine that you ask before doing because ist is not a good way to do so. DNG is - in summary - a derivat from TIFF and, at least the converted DNGs are not real RAWs; there are differences. I think you have thought about the reasons why DNG is much smaller than RAWs. ;) And up to version 12 of Capture One you could see a significant difference between convertig NEF or DNG, from V20 up it is very much better - but DNG remains to be not true RAW.
Therefore I can really support Richard Allens posting:
"If you're going to go down this route of converting your .NEF files to .DNG please keep backups of your original files as I did this a long time ago (converted files with no backup) and regretted it ever since."
And if you do so, your reason of changing NEF to DNG is gone.... ;)
Kind regards
