Custom Tint / WB shift on lens correction tool
ImplementedHi, I am a digital operator and here is something that myself and others would like to see.
When shooting with lenses of different manufacturers or series often there will be issues with colour consistency across the set of lenses.
It would be great if we could have a tool inside the lens correction tab to set a base level white balance / tint adjustment that is set at a lower level to the standard white balance tool and is attached to specific lenses.
So for instance if I put on a Sigma 50mm 1.4A that I know has a different colour cast to the rest of the lenses we will use on a shoot, I would like to save a profile for that lens stating that it should have a kind of 'compensation' of -550K WB tint and a +0.3 magenta/green shift, and every time I would use this lens this will apply at a deeper level to the standard WB tool so that any adjustments I make for creative reasons with the regular WB tool will apply correctly across all of the different lenses used in a shot folder. Taking LCC plates is not suitable for this.
This would mean that when the photographer is shooting fast and swapping out lenses of different manufacturers etc. The base tint could apply automatically meaning less time spent taking grey cards and tweaking WB manually to get everything consistent.
Thanks

Have you investigated the LCC facilities with a view to making a "standard" correction to be applied to all shots? (It might not be the fastest approach.
Or more simply create a Colour correction preset for the lens if a single adjustment can be applied equally over the entire lens and is consistent in all lighting conditions.
If not then then multiple presets and if that is not enough maybe one or more styles (therefore multiple presets) may be required.
With some skill and experience in use it may be possible to decide in advance which presets and styles may be required and apply them at the point of capture (or import).
If you can make the adjustment solely using WB then a WB reset should work well. Maybe ideally in a Layer but operationally that might be overly complicating things.

Hi SFA,
Thanks for the response.
LCC is not useful for this purpose.
In terms of the practical use of this I am thinking about the photographer requesting to swap between lenses on the fly. I might have say 10 seconds to change a lens, then the photographer will already have fired the first shots on the new lens before I'm even back at the digi station. There is no way that I could do this fast enough with presets, however w/ this being integrated w/ the lens profile there would be no issue.
What complicates matters is that almost no photographer will shoot perfectly flat with regards to white balance. Usually for a scene we would take a grey card then the photographer would make some creative adjustments from there say going +750K from neutral, and perhaps a slight green or red shift to get the skin looking good on the model. This puts a spanner in the works with regards to copying settings made with one lens and applying to another as the white balance will have to be redone manually every time. If there was a lower level wb/tint to account for the differences between lenses and could be applied on a lens by lens basis then the creative settings could be mixed and matched between lenses with no issues.

Hi Samuel,
Thank you for feedback on Capture One - this is always welcomed and encouraged among our users and we appreciate the time you've taken to contribute towards the development of the software.
I have forwarded your comments and suggestions on to our Product Management team as something to consider in a future release.
