Carl Zeiss Lenses compatibility with Capture One 12/20

Hi everyone!!!

I thinking to buy new Lenses, a MIlvus from Zeiss, 50mm 2.0 it is 100% manual, no autofocus. And i was wondering if there is a limitant or the compatibility with the CaptureOne, obviously i won't be able to focus but something else? Does anyone have any experience with this Lens. Would i'll i still be able to choose the Camera Mode direct from the program ( Shooting settings, -aperture priority, or speed priority etc ).

    I assume you are talking about tethering?

    If the lens is 100% manual not only will it have no focus control but is will not have aperture control so your control would need to be at the camera and full manual for both of those. Speed and ISO would likely be controllable vis the tether. If you have an Automatic ISO adjustment facility and it is good enough you might be able to change speed and allow auto ISO to deal with exposure correction having fixed the Aperture and Focus at the camera.

    So be honest I think that might be a strange approach but could work for certain situations.

    One problem is likely to be assessing the composition with available light and a stopped down lens but that is a subject with some complexity depending on the camera, available light source and their capabilities and how you need to shoot the subject matter so perhaps something to discuss at another time. However is worth mentioning that C1 has a Composition mode that might be useful for setting up shots in such manual control situations without creating a lot of unwanted test images that would need to be deleted later.

    Actually both, i conect the camera to the C1 and from there i make all the changes, what i was thinking on is to make a test with a manual nikon 50mm, from the old ones, i think it would be the same principles as with a Carl Zeiss.

    Any manual lens that has no electrical connectivity to the camera to control its settings will not have any control form Capture One either. So yes, if your Nikon on is manual only then all lens settings will have to be actioned at the lens. So Aperture and focus. (Also zoom but that is not of concern here with fixed length lenses.)

     

    Shutter Speed and ISO can be controlled from the camera and therefore from Capture One tethering.
