Best method for replicating Canon DPP color?

    Marc,

No idea about the R5 but when I looked at the 1DX 3 files just after that became available I thought the jpg output from the camera looked better then the equivalent RAW conversions from whatever had been used to convert the RAWs.

Presumably those images were in effect the same conversions that DPP produces just created in camera? May be the same for the R5?

If so it might be possible, in theory, so save a lot of work by tweaking the camera settings. Canon's technical people seemed to have created something quite special for the images I found on line where JPG and RAW files were available to download and compare.

I briefly checked a C1 RAW conversion when the 1DX3 support arrived and while it was easily possible to get results that were better (IMO) than the converted samples I had previously seen (from the same source file) the jpgs still had an edge that seemed like it would be a significant task to achieve without considerable experimentation.

What are the main differences that you have found that you like but cannot replicate using C1?

Sorry about that Keith! I wasn't sure which section would be best for posting.

SFA - Thank you for your thoughts. I've only been at it a few days and most likely just need more practice. Reds and greens seem to give me the biggest problem. I'm most concerned with getting the skin tones.  It just seems so easy with DPP despite the awkward and slow interface.
