Keyboard Shortcut for Keyword entry

    Does not exist.

To be honest I don't think the nature of the Keyword function would fully lend itself to working with keyboard short cuts.

There may be certain situations and use cases where it might but generally probably not the most effective approach.

Your one click option (or two clicks) would be to have the Keyword tool running as a floating tool at a convenient place on the screen. Maybe minimised until you want to use it.

Or, if you have a relatively small set of regularly used entries, set up some Presets or Styles (multiple presets in effect) and use them to save typing.

Thanks for the confirmation.  I don't understand your dismissing it as not effective.

I want to work without having to grab the mouse constantly, i.e. directing the application focus to keyword entry, then back to the images. Typing requires the keyboard, so my hands are there.  For this task, the mouse (or other pointing device) is the "oddball" action here.

Generally, I find that CI hasn't thought its keyboard ergonometry thoroughly to the end yet.  Yes, shortcuts are editable.  But, the act of focusing as above and navigating between tools seems to be lacking.

In a metadata and keywording scenario ("Library work"), it would be convenient to use the keyboard to navigate. For example (all steps with keyboard), start by selecting a collection (already possible for catalogues with arrow keys), then move into the collection and set the focus on an individual image, then move to the metadata tool tab, then into keyword entry or metadata field, enter data, tab to next needed field. When finished, focus back to the images to go to next image. Repeat.  If desired, back out to the collection level to select a new collection.  This use case seems to me self-evidently convenient.

In fact, with the step into the tool tabs, it should be possible to select any tool (perhaps just with tab key) within any tool tab. From there, +/- or arrows (or other key) could be used to adjust sliders up and down. Given the sheer number of different tools, it is hard for most users to remember individual key commands such as Ctrl+Cmd++ to raise exposure.  In fact, that keyboard command only works, once one has already selected the Exposure Tool Tab.  What use is a keyboard command, if I have to use the mouse to get to the state where it is active?  And, I note that most commands available to individual tool tabs have no default keyboard command.

As far as I can tell, this is all not possible.  I do understand that C1 has complex layers of functionality.  I also recognize that setting many image parameters, like layers, colors etc. are absolutely better achieved with a mouse or other pointer (or loupdesk-like tool).  But, navigating as above seems pretty basic.

I'll enter it as a feature request.

The styles/presets idea is (for me) not feasible. I am not tagging for stock photos with dozens of keywords. I only want to improve searchability, filtering and perhaps smart folders. I suspect that most users have a diversity of keywords, even if they need tags for stock or whatever. To save typing, an auto-text manager (Type expander etc.) is likely better.  Note, I am not trying to save typing per se, I want to avoid having to go to the mouse.

    Cheers,

    Jamie
