Minor updates shouldn't require a computer reboot to apply
ImplementedHello,
I more than disappointed with Capture One's update process. Notwithstanding the fact that automatic updating is a problem that has been solved in every possible way since 15 years and that C1 still isn't able to automatically update itself, it also seems that it actually is serious when the installer says I need to reboot my computer to complete the update.
I just had to do it to appy the 13.1.3.13 update (I had the 13.1.2 I think). Otherwise, the software wouldn't start as the logs would tell it somehow threw an exception for failing to find its very own assembly pieces and bits. That's, frankly, beyong astonishing. User software update usually never actually require users to reboot their computer, and even in the cases you find some bizarre installer that stills says you should, it's actually possible not to. Should I need to mention that even updating my GPU drivers doesn't require a reboot anymore? Drivers are the most critical part of an OS after the OS itself and even those doesn't need a reboot to apply an update.
But somehow, Capture One does.
Thanks for your time and your software for which I hope to see improvements soon.

Have you contacted support about this? I have never had to restart my computer just because I installed a Capture One update, and I have been using it since version 4.1.

Hi Jean,
Thank you for the post.
There are several similar requests on the automatic update process.
I will forward your comments to the product management team as well.
Though we cannot comment on future releases and the features to be added, we recommend keeping an eye on this article - click Follow next to the title of the article to stay up to date with new features and improvements.

I would echo Ian Wilson's comment.
There may be situations in which a particular computer would benefit in some way from a reboot - if for no other reason that is gets an opportunity to tidy up orphaned workfiles and refresh memory, etc.
I have never found it to be necessary but as general guidance I cannot see a problem with the suggestion.
In other words, if you do not reboot and something seems to be not working correctly, then try a reboot first rather than contacting support. Other software not updated and not restarted after the C1 update might cause issues in some cases. A reboot is the simplest suggestion to avoid such a situation more often than not.
But for those of who think it unnecessary under normal conditions, just don't bother if everything works without it.

Thanks for your answers. I already had the issue with previous update. I'm also well aware that rebooting can still do wonders when it come to issues like this. It's just that I've lost the habbit, assuming I ever acquired it.
