Catalog Size after moving files to new drive
Hi all
I recently ran out of space on my external hard drive where I keep my images. So after purchasing a larger drive I moved all my images over and opened the capture one catalog. Obviously, C1 couldn't see the images so I used the locate command to show C1 where they were. I woke my Mac this morning to discover it had run out of disc space. After investigation, it appears that the C catalog has almost doubled in size. It is now a whopping 78gb!
What have I done wrong for it to create such a large catalog? Has it created a whole new set of previews for the new drive?
Thanks

It sounds like C1's still keeping track of the original location AND adding the relocated files to the catalog. Are you seeing duplicate previews for the images?
The "Capture One right way" to move the files would be to move the files from within C1, not from the Finder.
Possibly an easy fix: Rename the new drive ("volume") to exactly what the original volume name is. Capture One seems to remember relative paths and I've been able to use a new drive after doing exactly that. In other words:
1. Move the files in Finder (I actually use Carbon Copy Cloner for this).
2. Rename the new drive to be the same as the old one. For example, "Photo Original Files".
3. Change the name of the original volume so as not to confuse C1.
When I've done this, C1 has no problem just using the new drive's files.
The complication you have is that your catalog is screwed up. If you backed up or copied the catalog before moving the files, you could use the old catalog (which was "current just before you moved the files") and be fine.

Aha...of course, that's what I did wrong! Thanks Abbott, really appreciated.
I do still have the original drive with all the images and I've not done anything on the new drive yet, so I might just start again and do the job properly.
Thanks again
