Importing a Capture one catalog with folder structure

    Hi,

There are two ways of creating a catalogue. You can store your images together with the catalogue ("In catalog"). This is called "managed catalogue". But you can also leave your images where they are (for instance, on an external HDD or SSD), and the catalogue contains then only the previews and the adjustments. This one is called "referenced catalogue". In this last case, if you go to "Folders" in the library, you would be able to retrieve your structure.

When you import images, be careful not to select "In catalog" in the "Import to..." field, but choose the requested folder or disk or whatever, or "current location", which will leave the images where they are.

At the moment I have all the pictures on a laptop that are stored in a folder structure and processed. What would be the best way to export from laptop and import them to my desktop while maintaining the folder structure and without losing my edits ?

There are close to 3k pictures and about 20  folders in total.

Using a laptop as mass storage device for pictures to be processed using a desktop doesn't seem to me the best way to proceed ;-).

I think you should store (by copying) all your images (with your folder structure) on an external hard disk (HDD or, better, SSD) and the catalogue on your desktop. The catalogue contains your edits. Its default location is in the "pictures" folder of your computer. It is far better to have the application and the catalogue on your Mac HD drive. This is what is called "referenced catalogue".
