C1 20 slow as dirt in general, especially moving files to trash

I'm transitioning from Lightroom to C1. I imported 100,000 images from LR and imported to C1 (most recent version of 20 on mac os 10.15.7 on 2019 mac pro with 192g memory and 12 cores). LR had no problem with a a catalog of 150k+ images but C1 is absurdly slow. It took eight to ten hours to import the catalog, then C1 was non-responsive (spinning beachball, application did not respond to any input at all) when trying to use it at all. After about ten minutes, I'd simply force quit. 

Someone told me C1 is not good with large catalogs, so I decided to remove some images. But it's absurdly slow even doing this - I moved about 500 images to the trash, and it took 15 minutes.

Smaller test catalogs worked fine, and to be honest, Media Pro and even iView Media, which were the software that Phase One bought and adapted, were much much faster, even in 2010

Am I doing something wrong? Will this improve in C1 v 21??

    I don't know if it will improve with C21, but for sure, Capture One is not, up to now, and by far, the best DAM, and specially with catalogues as huge as yours. I know people working with catalogues of about 70k images, and it works. But beyond......

    When importing your LR catalogue into Capture One, did you let enough time for C1 to build all the previews ? It takes a very, very long time. As an example, it took a full night when I imported my LR catalogue, which contained only 15k images.

    Thanks for the response, Robert. It's been about 48 hours since I started the import, plenty of time to build previews, etc.

    Perhaps there was some corruption with the exported catalog which carried through to the import. I just re-exported a smaller subset of the original export from LR - about 40k images. C1 is saying it will only take about twenty minutes for this.

    What DAM have you been using? LR is pretty good, but if you know of a better alternative, I'd love to hear your thoughts

    I agree that, when I used Lightroom, a catalogue search was very fast, and there seemed to be no limit with the number of files, according to what I read on the web.

    As I have only about 25,000 images, the Capture One catalogue works fine with me. There are some alternatives, such as Daminion, PhotoMechanics, Photo Supreme, for instance, but I haven't tried them yet.

    just an idea.

    have you possibly ticked "check for duplicates" on import?
