Capture One 21 Upgrade Disappointing
I have just installed the new version of Capture One 21 which I have pre ordered.
I am very disappointed with what has been added on the new version. Is nothing more than a version update, not an upgrade.
The only worthwhile new feature is Dehaze, and after all it appears to be nothing more than an improved version of Clarity.
Definitely this is the last time I am to pre order an upgrade without knowing what is coming.

What an absurd comment, obviously "worthwhile" is relative to the individual user. Because there is nothing new that suits you does not invalidate the product!

When there is nothing really new and useful then it is not upgrade. I don't consider increasing product number from 20 -> 21 as an upgrade.0 -
What is worthwhile, as said before, is a personal opinion. Me, as a counterpoint, appreciate that the new version seems to be substantially faster in importing and catalogue operations. I admit, limited testing on sessions of ~1000 images so far (no time), but those operations were consistently 15% faster.
For me, that's money well spend. I don't need more tools, more advanced image editing happens elsewhere. I also don't want CaptureOne to become a full blown image editor, i am scared that this will make them worse as a raw processort, or just dog slow like that other company.
Focussing a release on primarily improving speed and workflows for importing, is important to me, and probably the one or the other guy. It's not flashy, but it's hard work and helps me save time, and that's worth it for me.
Your mileage of course may vary. And buying an upgrade after it's released it's probably a good idea - it's not like there is a limited number of sales persons or licenses on release availabe. It's not a scare resources that you have to get on day one like the PS5 :)

Apparently they've done a lot of work to speed things up for the high volume wedding/events/sports shooters. I don't even use catalogs, and am not concerned with how fast I can edit a photo.
For ordinary photographers, there's just the Dehaze tool. I'd like to have it, but not at $159.
So Version 21 is a non-event for me. It seems there are two customer bases here; maybe there should be two products going forward.1 -
Hi totally agree with you Jim.
I think it is a bit like the food industry. Very subjective. There are people who are happy with mediocre quality but fast food. Other people are happy with slow food but of a good quality.

I agree with Jim Hughes. I don't know why, but for me upgrade to 21 would cost €209, which is huge amount of money. This Speed Edit is total nonsense for me. With practically no new useful features for me, I won't be upgrading to C1 21.0 -
I really love the editing quality of C1, I'm using v.20 pro life but life isn't really forever upgrade or update because with every new release, old C1 didn't get any update.
I don't expect new features like dehaze or the new import but at least new pro standard profiles or new camera or files support (v21 now support HEIC).
Furthermore I have a new update in my C20 to C21 but with an alert "this could be a pay upgrade", not really fair.

Software is a tough business, and camera software is even tougher these days. I want P1 to succeed and I'm happy to pay for new and improved functionality. The problem here is "bundling" - this release has literally just 1 single feature I want, the rest is aimed at another market.
I do agree that the marketing of the "unseen upgrade" - offering a discount to purchase it without knowing what it contained - was a bad idea. I'd be quite unhappy if I'd paid for this upgrade.2
