C1, Ver 21, advertising
I am a largely satisfied C1 customer, but the very intrusive daily mails regarding the update to c1, version 21 are very annoying.
This is almost coercion and I am close to treating mails from C1 as junk.

At the bottom of the mails is an unsubscribe option.
If you have tried that already and it has not worked I would suggest that you use the "Submit a request" option and direct a message to the Marketing Department.

The unsubscribe function is well known to me, but then I am again dependent on an advertising-minded manufacturer.
Since I prefer to use a blacklist function, where I know that it works and which I can also undo at any time.
Up to V21, the so-called newsletters have kept to a quite acceptable extent, but now this takes on a scope that would verienen the term SPAM.0 -
Ah, sorry.
I did not realise you were just venting. I thought you were asking a serious question.
My humble apologies.
I shall unfollow to ensure I do not make the same mistake should this thread continue to receive replies.

Well SFA, it's clear you are a CaptureOne fanboy - no matter what. They could take your wife, your home and you'd be handing them your car keys too while asking whether you could give them all your money too.
I didn't subscribe to any mailing list regarding CaptureOne v21, yet I still got them via a 3rd party service (think about that from a data protection point of view!).
Yes, you can unsubscribe via a few clicks but why should you have to when you didn't subscribe in the first place.
These are unpleasant business practices at best and even you should acknowledge that. Afterwards you can go back to praising CaptureOne on your altar.1 -
Better count to a hundred on this one. LOL.

@ C-M-B love it !
....but what else should all this poor online marketing specialist they had been hired instead of software developers do all day than to spam user ?

@Anton Timelthaler
I concur. I don't know if you know or anyone else for the matter know this. Capture One (the software) is a separate entity than Phase One (hardware digital backs) since version 20. With this separation, there are not different people handling each of the aspects.
I complete agree with you considering their newsletter. It's getting annoying; HOWEVER, I use Gmail and made a filter for any emails from the @captureone.com domain.
People who writes, "why not simply unsubscribe?" That's because I don't want to miss out on promotions, like earlier when Capture One ran promotions for Single's Day at 22% off etc. I wish the newsletter are better customizable. For example, let's say that I want to OPT-IN for promotions only but NOT for topics on Live Sessions or Product News/Features. Does that make sense?

I know that Phase One and Capture One are now separate entities.
As already mentioned, C1, which I have been using for many years, is an excellent product for me and I don't want to lose contact with the manufacturer. The webinars etc. are an interesting thing for me.
Also the amount of advertising has been quite acceptable in the past. Only with vers. 21 this has increased spam-like.
If I can prevent that by blocking @captureone.com, that would be a viable way.
Configurable newsletters, as described by you, would of course be even better.
Best of all would be, C1 would not exaggerate so extremely.I will try the blocking

Well SFA, it's clear you are a CaptureOne fanboy - no matter what.
Having a low tolerance for pointless, petty whining doesn't make anyone a Capture One fanboy.

Right.
Neither does wearing a pointy green hat or turning each cat you meet 90° clockwise. Which is why I never said these things make him a fanboy.-1 -
Huh.... well uhm that's a pretty interesting forum bug.
Needless to say I didn't make any of these line breaks/paragraphs in my original comment.0 -
(think about that from a data protection point of view!).
Yeah, let's do that. This is what the UK ICO has to say about it - but in the UK we continue to follow EU DP law, just like Denmark:
What is a ‘soft opt-in’?
The term ‘soft opt-in’ is sometimes used to describe the rule about existing customers. The idea is that if an individual bought something from you recently, gave you their details, and did not opt out of marketing messages, they are probably happy to receive marketing from you about similar products or services even if they haven’t specifically consented. However, you must have given them a clear chance to opt out – both when you first collected their details, and in every message you send.
That's precisely what Capture One is doing. Their emails explain that we receive them because we've signed up at www.captureone.con (and are therefore almost certainly customers) and the same emails ALWAYS provide an unsubscribe option.
So what's your point, exactly?
I've got 20-odd years first hand experience in Data Protection, having been been a lead DPA Subject Matter Expert for one of the largest UK government agencies - if Capture One was breaking DPA law, I'd have been all over it years ago.

And what does all this have to do with the topic of the thread now ?
I do not remember invited to a meeting of trolls :-(-1 -
@Keith R:
It's not about receiving a moderate amount of marketing material.
It's about spamming us via a 3rd party platform/provider.0 -
@Keith R
I'm not really interested in the bureaucratic situation in the UK.
The GDPR is also not helpful for the end user, who has to deal with the bureaucratic consequences.
And to hold the end user responsible for the spam-like sending of advertising emails is a complete misinterpretation of the data protection guidelines.
I didn't want to achieve anything with my contribution other than that C1 should return to its strengths and stop this aggressive advertising policy.@C-M-B
Thats it (y)2 -
@Keith
what you write about EC DP law is simply wrong ! there is nothing like a "soft opt in" ! the law is rather clear in this case, the receiver has to agree ! but maybe what you wrote is just one of the many GB exceptions, thanks we are done with that soon.
even the homepage of capture one does not really comply to the dp law which is surprising for a company of this size.
