For most cameras (I believe there are some exceptions) Capture One doesn't allow you to import directly from the camera. If you connect a camera it thinks you want to used tethered capture.

    You can either

    • insert the card from the camera in a card reader and import from that, or
    • import the images direct from the camera to some location on your computer, and then import into Capture One from that location.

Thank you. Too bad that Lightroom can do both, but C1 cannot. That would make my workflow perfect.

I'm having the same problem here. I might be switching back to Lightroom for the ease of use.

Some recent cameras from some manufacturers have internal communications settings that allow user to specify whether the camera is to connect to the computer as a mass storage device or using another protocol - for example as a device for tethered use totally or mostly controlled by an application on the computer  - for example Capture One tethering.

In past times with older cameras this was not the case.

So far as I am aware Sony and Fuji have the most cameras available with the appropriate mode selection options although most of them are likely to be cameras introduced in the past 3 years or so.

Where manufacturers only supported one connection mode for their own software it would typically automatically open the camera as a storage device and disallow use as a fully tethered device. That conflicted with Capture One being used for full tethering.

Personally I find removing memory cards and loading directly from them into C1 via an internal to the computer SD card reader or via an external card reader is more effective than trying to use the camera as a disk drive but I appreciate that different folks have different criteria for what they feel is necessary to satisfy their needs.
