Capacity
How many images can I realistically include in a Catalog? I am approaching 8,000 - most of which are 25MB files.
I am already aware of performance issues due to the (lack of) database design - did they fix this? - so I have to tiptoe around selecting "All Images" which makes it difficult to search. I am using albums, smart albums, Groups and projects, but I am sure I am missing a few images from them.
With 2021 approaching, do I bite the bullet and start another catalog, or will this one carry me through a few more years, to, say, 30,000 images? Disk space is not an issue, and my working disks are all solid-state.

You don't mention whether you are a Windows or Mac user.
My only experience is with the Windows version. In my experience, Cataloging became problematic when my images count got over about 50,000.
There are reports from folks here with far higher counts than this, but I have no idea what their system configuration is.
My images are stored on a Synology NAS and my Catalogs in a SSD in my computer.
Good luck.
