Using photoshop as a plug in

I am having some difficulty and cannot seem to find an answer.  I am only using photoshop so that I may access silver efx pro,  (which is a program I have used for too many years ),  So i take the variant and "edit in" photoshop,  then while in photoshop I bring in silver efx.   so when when ending in silver efx,  I am taken back to photoshop.   I am not sure what to do at that point.  So I have closed out and then when I get back to Capture one,  there is a new image or variant--but none of the changes appear.   I know I am missing something .   Any help is much appreciated.
