I haven't been paying attention to the various tethering issue posts, but ran into a problem on my mac that may be related to your issue.  Or not.

When you plug in your Nikon does it look like a disk drive has just been attached on your Mac?  If so open System Preferences.  Click on Security and Privacy.   Select the Privacy tab.  Click on Full Disk Access in the left pane.   Does Capture One show as one of the allowed apps?  If so it will be listed and there will be a checked box in front of its name.

If not listed Click on the lock icon and enter your administrator password to allow changes.  The click on the + button to add Capture One and make sure it is checked.
