P30 Back/C1/MBP 2014/big sur Kernel panic
-
I had a recollection of something like that but no idea where else to point you to confirm it.
It's a sign of the times, sadly.
I have discovered that my old but lightly used and still working printer does not have any driver support for Windows 10. So I must keep a Win 7 machine working and/or buy a new printer (to last how long this time?)
One immediate problem is that for some reason most of the printers I would interested in(basically and colour inkjet with a decent reputation for photo printing) providing I don't have to constantly swap blacks) all seem to be out of stock everywhere. To some extent this also applies to the inks - or at least one of the inks that would be required after setup. In one is not available there is not much point in having the rest.
Worse that that the tanks seem to have less fill. Old "Standard" has become "XXL". And the price has increased - in fact the retailers seem to be asking almost twice the RRP price suggested on the manufacturer web site.
Unless these are temporary aberrations it seems like we may be in for a period of "World Class" price gouging without any technical reasons to support it.
Against that background some older hardware from the digital era moving into its "museum" period seems almost reasonable. Obviously that's not a problem for older analog devices. Maybe I should revert to film and set up a darkroom ...? I assume there will be at least one source of film and appropriate processing and printing materials available for long enough to outlive my needs. It might be easier that trying to keep older electronics running reliably.
Such is progress.
You might find more recent support for FW in Windows. And older Windows device, used as a dedicate tether processor for the P30, may offer a slightly longer window of opportunity. However I'm not sure if WIn10 still supports FW by some method. C1 V21 does not offers support for Win7 although for the time being most things may still work. But they may not.
