Poor performance
Hi
I have made the switch from adobe lightroom but I have to say I am disappointed. In terms of editing features i have no complaints, but the performance is shockingly bad. Program keeps freezing when attempting to import new files, import feature is very slow, library browser is super slow, applying styles causes the program to freeze for about 10 or 15 seconds every other picture. I cannot allocate more system memory and it only runs on about 8gb of system memory which causes the program to become very slow after a few edits. Anyone else has similar issues? Any tips on how to improve the performance? Oh and that price hike!!
My system specs
Ryzen 9 3900x
32gb ddr4
geforce gtx1080
ssd's and hdd's

Are you using catalogs?
How big?
Have you verified the catalog(s)?
Did you import LR catalogs? If so were they sanitised before import?
Does the Windows Task Manager (assuming Win 10) offer any ideas about where possible performance bottlenecks might be originating?
Do you have the "check for duplicates" feature working when importing? Do you need it? If not do things speed up when you turn it off?
Does your catalog include any unsupported file types?
A few questions to start with.

Hi
I am using catalogs created in capture one, not imported from lightroom. How do you verify catalogs and why do you have to do it?
Task manager does not show any bottlenecks as far as I can tell.
With checking for duplicates on or off during import it makes no difference. There are no unsupported files in my catalog as far as I know. From my perspective it looks like the program is poorly optimised and the bottleneck lies in the program itself. Why only use a fraction of the system processing power? Why the occasional freezes? It runs OK one minute and freezes the next

There is some kind of performance regression introduced with v21. I have the same experience with random interface freezing. It is not related to OpenCL acceleration On or Off either (which is often recommended as the root of these types of problems).
Hopefully Capture One team can figure it out and release a fix. Nothing has improved through v14.0.2.
I do not have a solution. Just know that the behavior you are seeing is not normal (was not in any previous version) and that you are not alone in experiencing it.
If you can, open a bug report with support and see if they can help you troubleshoot the problem.

I totally agree.. I have a I9-9900 Intel processor/display card/ memoryy/ 1TSSD/ it's torked out..... performance took a hit with COP 21. Locks up for 15 seconds with Levels, just trying to move the slider.. .
I don't know what they did with the Import feature, it's slower than molasses in winter, no dialog ..no blinky.. just wait ...wait... wait... then finally your files are imported. I keep thinking it too is locked up. It might be, there's nothing on the screen that tells me it's working/gathering.
I was using Open CL with the last version just fine.. I shut it down with 21 thinking it might help that lock up in working with the levels slider, but no difference.
I thought maybe this last update was a fix... but nothing changed for me.
Thought maybe it was my computer. NO, this happened after COP 21 was installed from the very beginning. Slow Imports (makes ya wonder where the improvement they talked about went.. maybe for Macs.. not Windows.
20 worked so much better. Maybe they could combine 20 with 21 new features.

EIW,
I am experiencing any of the problems you mention.
What steps have you taken to try to work out what is going on? C1 has many log files that may provide clues.

EIW,
Yeah, C1 20 was running pretty well, couldn't complain, hence why I was keen to make the jump from Adobe, but 21 is disappointing so far...especially with the price hikes1
