Best capture naming counter token when shooting tethered, w/ memory card and w/ multiple cameras - 5D IV
Lily from C1 wrote a detailed thread on this, but I'm afraid I'm still having problems figuring out best solution! My situation.
Shooting solo or with just one assistant, fast moving commercial shoot. Shooting with 2 Canon 5D IV's, possibly with a Fuji XT3 or GFX thrown into the mix, just to make it more complicated!
Mix of tethered and direct to card shoots. In corporate shoots I'll often shoot portraits tethered, then shoot lifestyle/documentary direct to card using both 5D IV's with different lenses. I'll often return to the tethered portrait setup and connect the second camera to shoot a few more portraits.
My naming format is simple. The tokens are:
nickB_[Current Year(yy)][Current Month(MM)][Current day of Month(dd)]_[4 Digit Counter]
nickB_210129_0001.CR2
A 4 digit counter is fine for my use. I don't plan on shooting over 9999 shots in one day, but if I did, I'd have a DT on set to manage files.
Issue is when I get back to the studio and start importing the various cards, it becomes a bit of a mess and I end up having to select all the shots in the browser window, set the sorting to Date and then rename everything.
What's your solution when picking the number counter token for naming?
Thanks!
