ADVANCED COLOR EDITOR - Design Changes and Features Recommendations

Advanced Color Editor - It is powerful, but it can be better, flexible and more powerful. Below are my observations and recommendations.

Limitations:

  • Hue Slider: Maximum range is limited to 60  (From -30 to +30).
  • RGB / HSB: Read only, can't edit to set values explicitly.
  • Target Color: No Color picker option to choose explicitly new target (output) color.
  • Masking Type: Supports only Color Mask, not Standard or Grayscale mask
  • Logical Flow: Commands / Options jumbled across all over the Tool.

New Target Color Picker:

      New direct 'Target Color Picker' feature to select a color to which source color to be mapped / converted.

  1. Select With In Picture: Select Target color from with in same picture as a new color to which source color to be converted.
  2. Select From Overlay: When 'Overlay' picture is added with 'Show' is enabled, Target Color Picker to be allowed to select the color from overlaid picture.

Recommendations:

  1. Tool design can follow "Select Color=> Refine Selection => Edit Color" Philosophy.
  2. Move selection refinement wedge to top together with 'Color Correction Picker' and new "Target Color Picker" as shown in Pic.
  3. Mask type - Add dropdown control with Standard and Grayscale mask options along with Color (default).
  4. Extend Hue adjustment range from 60 Deg to 360 Deg => -180 to 180 to cover full color wheel. During this adjustment Target color wheel should reflect dynamically the changes - wedge movement on the wheel.
  5. Make RGB / HSB editable so that values can be modified manually to control color precisely.
  6. When color picker is selected, show 'dot' on the color wheel to represent the color under the picker which should move dynamically which is conceptually similar to orange line on the histograms. If Target picker is selected, dot should be on target wheel to represent the color under cursor to which selected color will be converted to. 
  7. Move color selection list and add(+) and remove(-) options bottom of the tool, above the list.
  8. Add 'Selected' and 'Target' color wheels so that target Color Wedge will get updated dynamically based on HSB changes.
