Importing Images
Hello,
I cannot get the trial version to import photos from the library in the photos app on Big Sur OS. Unless I am missing something here, this seems to be the automatic place where my photos are now stored. Import Choose only takes me to route directory: users/martin/Pictures/PhotosLibrary.photos library and then says there are no images available. Are Capture One and the new style Photos app incompatible? Hope someone can shed some light on this as I seem to have fallen at first base.
Many thanks, Martin

The trouble is that the library in the photos app is not a physical folder. The images are stored somewhere within the Mac Photo Library structure and it's not at all clear where you would point the Capture One importer to so as to access the image files.
I suspect that the best thing is to export files from the Photos library to some physical folder. You can select the photos you want within Photos, then on the File menu choose Export>Export unmodified original for x photos... and select a folder to put them in. Then import them to Capture One from there.
Apple seem to have designed the Photos app for people who never want to look under the hood or organise their images outside of Apple's way of doing it. I would find it extremely frustrating - it's not really designed for serious photographers, I think!
And moving forward, you can import images to real folders rather than to Apple's Photos app for maximum flexibility.

Hello Ian,
Many thanks for the prompt reply. I had come to much the same conclusion myself in a round about way! Anyway, I am now going to bypass the Mac system and set up my photo storage folders on an external drive. Then, hopefully I will be able to save to that and simultaneously import to Capture One from my SD card as shown on the tutorial. Fingers crossed that will solve my problem. Fortunately, as this is a new computer I have only put a few photos into the Photos app to get familiar with what I am doing. Still, keeps the brain cells exercised!
Thanks again, Martin
