Sounds like you missed the opportunity for an upgrade to version 12.

Based on the date of your V11 purchase you were really buying V12 but with the opportunity to install and use V11 until V12 was released.

A new version requires a new activation key.

The key is backwards compatible (i.e. can be used for older versions of Capture One) but not forwards compatible.

    Ups, ok.
Is there any way to contact C1 to get at least what i bought, V12?

In the top line of the screen page, you will find a "Submit a request" feature that provides for tracked and recorded communication with C1. Just pick the general subject area that seems most appropriate as the department to contact.

I'm not sure that it is an option that can be easily offered - I think it would still require a new key issue and that may or may not still be an option. It may depend on the "sales channel" used for the purchase.

But there is no harm in asking.

Hi! I did the same thing, bought perpetual single user license for Capture One 12 in Fall of 2019 and it included a free upgrade to Capture One 20. I am not receiving emails from Capture One, inviting me to upgrade for free to C1 21... but it's not actually free, my license key won't work for C1 21 and the upgrade fees are just the full price. Very confusing. But short of moving to a subscription plan and losing out on the $ I spent on the perpetual license, or just re-buying a perpetual license for the most up to date software version for C1 21, there is nothing to do, right?

Correct.  Some wait for one of the times Capture One is discounted before purchasing the new version.  I don't know if it happens on a regular basis but I sometimes see a 25% or 30% discount mentioned on photography sites.
