Yesterday, while I was exporting photos the Mac shutdown by itself!  Upon starting up I noticed only partial output was completed.  Then I realised that I couldn't start up Capture One anymore with the error reporting window appearing every time.

Ahhh, you should have come to us with this complaint right away.   We could have saved you the effort of replacing your catalog.

Capture one uses a "lock file" to ensure that only one copy of capture one is accessing the catalog at any given time.  When the app quits or when you switch catalogs or sessions the lock file is removed.   If your system crashes, as yours did, you have to manually remove the lock file.  It only takes a few seconds.

    • Open a finder window.
    • Navigate to the folder that contains your catalog
    • Right click on the .cocatalog file and select Show Package Contents
    • remove the file named "writelock"

That's all you need to do to regain access to the catalog.

Wow, that's simple.  Thank you very much Marco for this great tips which will come in handy in the future if needed.  I only thought that restarting will clear and jam or lock in the system.

Not sure what caused the lock and also the persistent viewer focus activity progress wheel thing.  Anyway, I'll monitor further and hope the system will be stable henceforth.
