Capture One 20
I recently lost a session with about 150 shots when I switched workspaces to wedding. I am using C1 for Fujifilm build 13.1.4.15 and BigSur 11.2.2 I have looked everywhere I can think of but I think the session has gone. I switched to wedding again yesterday and it crashed again. Luckily nothing was lost. I was in acatalog. Has anyone any Ideas where the session could be?

So to be clear - you were in a catalog, and when you say "session" you don't mean a Capture One session?
I'm not sure why changing the workspace to "Wedding" should make a difference. It's only a customised arrangement of the tools and tool tabs.
Do you know the date of the images concerned? If you are in a catalog, could you change to the All Images collection in your catalog and filter by date to track them down?

In the first incidence, I was in a session yes a Capture One session. I changed to wedding and C1 crashed I reopened C1 and the session had gone as for the dates they would be mid to late February. Last night I was looking through a catalog and changed to wedding C1 crashed again upon reopening everything was as it was before the crash. I do think I have lost all photos in that session as I can find it nowhere. Thanks for your reply Ian.

David,
With a session there are 3 elements involved.
The source files, the cosessiondb file and the edit and cache subfolders under the folder in which the images have been stored.
Can you find the original images?
If you can, do you also see the edits, etc., subfolders?
It's difficult to immediately think of a reason why a specific Workspace selection should cause a sudden application crash. Had you used the Workspace before? Had you personalized it in any way?
YOu may need to have a look at the log files to get some idea of what the application was doing at the point of the crash. If reading log files is not your thing use the "Submit a request" option to create a Support Case and have the C1 team take a look at the logs.
Edit: Had you actually imported the files from the camera/memory card to the computer? (Whether into C1 directly or to an intermediate folder does not matter.)
Is there a possibility that you were working in the files using the memory card as the disk on which they are stored?

I can't think of why changing workspaces would lose your files, but I can think of why it could cause C1 to crash. I've experienced C1 inexplicably modifying ("corrupting") a particular saved workspace several times. I eventually resorted to locking the workspace from the Finder. This first happened in C1 20 and continued to C1 21. Only this one workspace, which spans 2 monitors, was affected.
The first thing I'd suggest is that you delete your existing Wedding workspace and recreate it from scratch:
1. Quit C1.
2. In Finder, navigate to ~/Application Support/Capture One/Workspaces and delete the workspace.
3. Recreate the workspace in C1. Now any corruption "should" be gone—in my case, though, C1 kept corrupting the new space so on a hunch, I opened the corrupted workspace in BBedit (the free version, which used to be called "TextWrangler") and discovered three (!) entries for the corrupt element. Deleting them and saving the result seems to have fixed the problem.
Then for your 'missing' files (which I suspect are still there), first try launching C1 and selecting your session from the "Recents" item. Hopefully C1 remembers where it used to be. Otherwise you can go into the Open dialog and you should see the session's file path. Failing that:
1. In the Finder, search the volume you expect the files to be stored on. It would be helpful if you remembered at least one filename to search for, but even finding appropriate folders could be useful.
2. You may have to do some manual poking, but you should be able to find the session.
In the unlikely event that C1 quietly deleted the session, you could try a data recovery program like ProSoft Engineering's Data Rescue. Not free, but it'll probably get your files back.

I would like to thank you all for taking the time to reply. Firstly SFA yes I had imported them to C1 directly. Reading log files is not my thing. I have submitted a request regarding the crash and lost files. Also I have looked for the cosessiondb file and the edit and cache subfolders under the folder in which the images have been stored. By default, it is my pictures folder Secondly Abbott I will attempt what you say though it is probably above my computer pay grade, at least I have something to work with. Many thanks again.

David - if the image files themselves and the Capture One subfolders (and their Cache and Settings sub-subfolders) are still there, then it really doesn't matter too much if you don't have the .cosessiondb file. You have all the important stuff. You could create a new session, and then import the images in their current locations - just remember to check the box to include existing adjustments.
(Unlike in a catalog, the .cosessiondb file doesn't contain very much. Details of session favourites, and smart albums, that kind of thing, but that's all stuff you can easily do again, if your images and their settings are intact.)

David,
When you imported the files to the session are you absolutely certain that you did not leave the files at their Current Location on the memory card?
Do you still have the memory card with those shots and without it being re-formatted?
If you do, find the folder on the card with the images and see if that folder also has a CaptureOne folder within it.
I have suggested this simply because I have never in about 12 years of use fo Capture One sessions had a session disappear but I have, on one or two occasions when working in haste and not paying enough attention to what I was doing, managed to create a session on a memory card instead of importing.
Not a problem at the time and easily resolved when necessary. It's the only thing I can think of that comes anywhere close to resulting in the situation you have described.
Does the lost session appear on your list of "Recent" opened sessions by any chance?

Once again many thanks for your help. I will get back to you both when I have more time to investigate this.

Ian I have looked in the C1 folder there is a cache and settings 131 upon opening the cache folder the subfolder is called proxies on opening that I get some DSCF files numbered in numerical order from 0904 to about 0935 n the proxies folder they are designated.RAF.cop and range from size 1mb to 2.7mb kind is Capture...e proxy under settings the files are the same numerically and are designated .RAF. cos size 6kb all files kind is as you would expect Capture...ettings. I have tried to open these files to no avail it will not let me use C1 to open them.
SAF I am certain that the files were imported and I see where you are going, I did I think re-format the card so that is out but I will check the card one quick question had I left the session on the card would I be able to work with them with the card not connected to the computer? I am guessing not but I have worked with them without the card being connected.Card was formatted just checked. Many thanks.
