Possible WIn 10 updates and compatibility matters.

There are later releases of C1 V20  - maybe install the last version released and try that?

Just ran all pending updates on Windows for that version.

De-installed C1 again, downloaded from Phase One the last version of 20 and installed that.

Same result.  As it fails to do anything I don't even get an error or somesuch.  Just nada.

    Jens,

Are you trying to sat C1 from a screen short cut icon?

If so, what is the command within the icon?

Have you tried starting the program .exe file directly from where it is installed?

Do you have a multi-screen set up?

If you go to the Windows Task Manager does it show CaptureOne running?

As I said in my 1st post, I tried to start it from icon, start menu and also from .exe file directly.  Makes no difference.  As it fails to start up, there is nothing of C1 to be found in the task manager.  I just use a single screen.

Again, I was using it in early March.  Microsoft only have one patch day a month.  That's why I'm puzzled as to why it's suddenly not starting.

Not starting with no message to indicate that there is a problem would be unusual on a Windows system.

Have you checked the Capture One log files?

Are there any related messages in the Windows Event logs or similar activity records?

Are you on a subscription or a perpetual license?

Have you checked the activation status of your system through your account? Doing so may not have any direct relevance but what you report seems to be so odd (if there are no messages displayed) that taking a minute or so to look into the account may be wise.

Thanks for trying to help.  I've never posted here about any issues because I usually figure things out eventually.  But this has me stumped because I have nothing to go on.

I have a perpetual license.  I can see my license details on my phase one account.  As I have de-installed and re-installed C1 a few times, I would expect to having to activate C1 again.  But as it doesn't start that isn't something to test yet anyway.

Were can I find these log files?

WIn 10 should have the log files here

    C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\CaptureOne\Logs

As a starting point can you see any logs with today's date or a recent date for which you know you tried to start C1.

Also check the Windows records for messages related to applications.

I have assumed that Windows show C1 as a known installed program but, given that you seem to be getting no response at all, I should suggest that you confirm that once more via Windows.

Yes, I know, much too ridiculous to suggest - but over the years I have learned that sometimes obvious things can be too obvious. Especially when the symptoms are completely outside any experience I can remember with Windows.

    Hi Jens,

Well, I decided to run a search on my machine via Windows Search for "P1.AppCore" and the first thing that was listed was this post on the forum from a year ago which seems to offer an answer to the problem.

Capture 20 does not open – Capture One

I am, quite frankly, amazed that an MS search instantly listed that post and specifically the last reply.

There seems to be a lot more to be discovered about Win10 (as a recent new W10 user but long-term Win 7 hold out.)

    I hope this helps.

The plot somewhat thickens.  I've had recently issues with that C++ Redistributable mentioned in that post.  Unfortunately I'm still stuck as I can neither uninstall the old version nor install the new one downloaded from MS.  It says a file (vc_runtimeMinimum_x64.msi) is missing and when I point to the file it says it is a different version then the one it looks for.  The installation is then terminated with an error 0x80070643.

I've tried the solutions to that error code from MS support site but nothing is working.  Still stuck.

Other than checking any recent Windows updates and perhaps undoing any that look possibly related I'm not sure what else to suggest.

Have you installed any other programs recently that might have changed something that C1 needs?

Maybe check the Win10  Reliability Monitor to see if that suggests anything more than you already know?
