Image sharpens while adjusting it?

I notice that an image will look a bit sharper while I'm pushing the the slider to make an adjustment, and then it softens after. (If anything, I would expect the opposite behavior: that the image would lose detail while moving the slider, and then sharpen as it re-renders.) Have any ideas how to fix this?
