Capture One not seeing Fuji GFX100s RAW files?

I'm fuc**d if I'm paying £150 to upgrade, just for a few lines of code that allow me to read GFX100s files – what a rip off. I'm getting sick and tired of Capture One and their rip off options. You either pay a monthly subscription, or you are forced to pay £150 every year when Capture One bring out an upgrade with support for a few more cameras.

Capture One (Phase) are just a big rip off company for charging stupid upgrade fees just to allow us support for our latest cameras.

Affinity Photo does everything Capture One does anyway and that's only £29 one off with all future (for life) updates included.

Capture One is like Adobe, just a massive rip off.

I'm off to make a YouTube video about Capture One and their RIP OFF fees.

Why should I have to pay £150 for a few extra lines of code to support a new camera? Greedy Corporation strikes again, ripping off the customer for all they can grab. Bast**ds!!!

You do realise that this happens all the time, with every Raw converter? There has to be a point at which old versions are superseded, and this inevitably means that some cameras will be left behind.

It has always been this way. You're not special in any way to have been caught by this inevitability, nor is Capture One in any way unusual in this regard.

I started using Capture One with version 3.7 - maybe I should expect them to update that version to support my Canon R5, eh?

Still - let's see if your huffy, self-righteous flounce helps anything...

Affinity Photo does everything Capture One does anyway

And if you think Affinity Photo is in the same league as a Raw converter, I can recommend an excellent optician...

Take a look at the exif information and try to edit it. (I guess, just remove the 's'), and try an import. If it works, you can use a command line tool likw exiftool and then something "exiftool -Model='GFX-100' *.RAW" (whatever your raw files end in).

Compared to the price you payed for the Fuji the price for the Capture One upgrade is minimal. But you are luckier than me. Actually I even would pay for a support of Panasonic cameras like "G91", but Capture One ignores it for years now. What a shame.

Edgar, I didn’t buy the Fuji, it’s on loan for review. Besides, that is still besides the point. That’s like saying you paid £250,000 for a Rolls Royce so you can pay £150 for an air freshener to go in it. Steinway Pianos do this too, just because their grand pianos cost £100,000 they know the people who buy them can afford £1,500 on one of their piano stools, which cost about £75 to make.

Keith, most software companies (including Apple and Adobe, pre Adobe’s subscription model of course) don’t charge for ‘dot updates’ only major ones and most companies only ever did a major update about every three years. Nothing ‘self-righteous’ about pointing out the greed of companies.

Course I would not expect Capture One to update version 3.7, but ‘dot’ updates to add new cameras should not be chargeable, only major new updates and not every year at that or it just makes it a rip off. £150 a year for an upgrade is more than Adobe charge for both Lightroom and Photoshop to subscribe to per month on their ‘Photographer’s Package’.

Fact is, Capture One shot from version 12 (I think it was) right up to version 20 and we all know why they did that, to tie in with the year 2020, then in 2021, guess what, oh no, out comes another so-called ‘Major’ update and version 21 and a £150 fee to upgrade to it. This means in 2022 there will be version 22 of Capture One and yet another £150 upgrade fee so over four years you’ll spend £600 and even if you use their subscription package it’s still £19 per month (that’s double Adobe’s ‘Photographer’s package: Lightroom AND Photoshop, which is just £9.98 per month), the price is still a whopping £912!!!

The developer of Capture one, Phase One, are getting silly with their prices, just as they are with their overpriced medium format cameras. It’s corporate greed. Phase One are a mere pixel compared to a company like Adobe, yet they charge double the price for a monthly subscription and a rip off £150 per year to upgrade if you buy outright.

This begs the question, why even bother with Capture One when you can go with the ‘Industry’ standard Adobe and get both Lightroom and Photoshop for half the price?

Fact is guys, don’t get annoyed with me for bashing your favourite software, it ‘was’ my favourite software for editing too and I paid £299 for it only a few years ago.

If we all stand up and say how wonderful it is that they are charging these fees then next year they put the prices up and keep on pushing and they will continue to push until there is a bit of a backlash and only then will they back down a little. So by complaining about this post and defending Phase One your only encouraging price hikes in the future – that’s how the directors on the board of this company will look at it and why wouldn’t they.

Affinity Photo, that I use since years, is an awesome pixel editor at
a price that makes me recommend it to ALL my students. When it
comes to imagery, this tool is superb but, in terms of photography,
it is not at all suitable for enthusiast or pro workflows.

AP is an editor that can read a given number of RAWs but it will not
produce sidecar files to record and renders one's work non-destruc-
tively AND tweakable when needed. AP will only convert theRAWs
and your work in a file format that does not offer the same flexibility.

To add salt to the wound, Capture One 21 DOES NOT WORK ON WINDOWS 10!!! It keeps shutting down my computer as soon as I select ANY image.

I am a Fujifilm GFX 100s user and now I cannot use your software to edit my pictures!

    Mircea Dragan,

This is mainly a User to User forum so using the term "your software" would be better directed towards Capture One through the creation of a Support Case using the "Submit a request" option that can be found at the top of this page.

I would suggest checking the Logfiles if you have not already done so. Or getting the C1 Support Team to take a look at them for you and then make some suggestions about how to approach a solution to the problem.
