File size limitations
How do people generally get around the file size limitations of C1?
The official limitations is believed to be around 40,000x20,000 pixels, but even if you get 80% there, C1 has a tendency to crash. Last night it was so bad that several computer restarts were required to just get C1 back up and running again.
C1's primary role is RAW converter, but it's also the central place where all my photos live. To have individual images make the system crash all the time is very annoying. Looking now at complementing the setup with a separate DAM solution (Photo Supreme), but the redundancy of such a setup is just not very appealing.
No need to edit them in C1, just the ability to have them being stored in the system with a small preview file attached would be enough. The 'open with' function would do the rest.
Just wondering if I'm the only one with this issue and how others are dealing with this.

Does this happen with lots of files or only a small number? The reason I ask is that I experienced reliable crashes in C1 when I'd select a particular project in my catalog. C1 crashed every time and I was really getting upset with C1.
Then, on a hunch, I ran a utility (it was either TechTool Pro or Drive Genius), and that discovered a couple of corrupt original files in the project. Trashing those (it was only 2 out of more than 1000) completely solved the problem.
Also, have you verified your catalog recently?
If it's not an issue of file corruption, then I can't help you.

Thank you for your suggestions Abbott.
So far it has happened with quite a diverse set of files, that open well in for example Photoshop or Affinity Photo. So it is unlikely that it is a corrupted file, or C1 may make them corrupt in the process perhaps.
I work mostly with Sessions and not Catalogs and I dont believe there is such a thing as a verified Session? I did try to make a fresh new session and just imported one (big) image, and C1 crashed immediately.

You can verify Sessions as well as Catalogs. On the File menu:

You can't have the session in question open at the time.

Thanks, good to know. Unfortunately it has not helped the problem.
Just tried fresh and clean session. Verified it, all ok. Loaded a couple of different than before large images, and boom...crash. Anything over the official C1 limit is not even recognised, but building previews on files of roughly 500 megapixels and above is where it fails.
Even if it would not crash at these 'near capacity' files, given the limit of C1, what do others use as a complementary workflow if they create large images?
