Incorrect rating shown on all images after changing rating on one

If you have more than one image selected There is a Toggle available to change between "Edit All Selected" being active or inactive.

Changes to simple value fields - like Rating and Colour Tags (where no recalculation is required and the validity of the data is controlled by the limited content available) are applied immediately so all active images.

Might that be a factor here?

    Hi SFA.

Thanks for reading.  That is definitely not the issue.  I've been using CO regularly since v3 and know this feature and the toggle is always off (single image edit).  Also as I noted it was a display, not data, error as all the prior correct ratings re-appeared after switching to a different image directory and back so they were all not actually changed, just the one I intended to edit.

    Ah, OK.

In the absence of certain knowledge that you have been a long-time user, it was a suggestion that had to be made!

Were there any activities of note just before this phenomenon started?

    Windows Update?

    Driver updates?

    C1 update?

It is a fresh late-April install of both Win10 home 20H2 and CO21 on a new Dell XPS 15 9500 32GM memory, 1TB SSD Nvidia GTX 1650.  There have been some driver/win updates since but the issue has been there the whole time.

(My 10yr old 4GB desktop system that doesn't meet CO min spec runs CO21 fine if a bit slow and does not have this issue.)

So far I have only seen this when I change the rating in the viewer labels bar it changes the display of the rating to the same one for every image in the browser when in filmstrip mode (i haven't tested other modes).  It is definitely display issue as rating filtering still works as it should. (For example if I filter to 3-star only it will only show 3-star images and if I change one to 4-star that image will be filtered out, but all the images show as 4-star even thought I have still have filtering to show 3-star only)

    That all sounds really strange.

Have you already tried a re-install?

It's not something I usually do as I can't recall it ever being necessary in my case (probably lucky...) but in the circumstances you have described it may be worthwhile.

I'm not sure that it means much but my 5 months old Dell Precision has just informed me that another new BIOS update should be installed along with some other things which seem mostly to relate to Intel updates. This will be the second one in the time I have owned it. My older, 2013, Precision only had one BIOS update that I can recall.

I think this is generic security stuff and some Wi-Fi and Bluetooth related updates so probably not anything vaguely likely to be about the unexpected display of colour tags. However, it may be indicative of an ever-increasing level of complexity that could result in obscure and unexpected anomalies for which it might be difficult to track down the problem's source.

My guess is that, as a display only problem with the colortag data not being written to the variant edit instructions, somewhere in the working memory is a file used as the source for display that is being updated with the green flag for all of its current pre-loaded content in preparation for display but that the real update is in fact being handled correctly.

So far as I can tell (I have V20 running at the moment but I don't think there has been an intentional functional change in this area for V21) no matter how the "Edit Selected" toggle is set if you change the color tag value for a thumbnail using the Browser only that specific variant's color tag is set.

To change all of the selected variants at the same time (what you are seeing in the display but not what is being written to the edit instructions) requires the use of a defined Keyboard Shortcut OR using the Color Tag edit facility in the "Adjustments" drop-down menu.

If a re-install does not change anything I think you may need to create a Support Case and get the C1 Support Team to make some suggestions.
