Capture one working on both windows and Mac machines. Is this possible ?
Hi all, is there any issues with working with the same catalogs and sessions if you have two machines ; one running off C21 Windows and the other C21 Mac. Currently I have one Windows laptop with Capture One 21 and all my sessions and Catalogs on the internal hard drive. My plan is to buy the new iMAC when the upgraded Capture one 21 version comes out that can deal with the M1 chip. Then to export all catalogs and sessions to an external SSD drive . Then I can use the iMAC at home and the windows laptop while travelling. Any problems with this plan ?

As far as I know, whatever version of CO is considered, it
comes for the TWO distinct platforms.0 -
Thank you nikon shooter. Yes I know I can use both seats on my license for the two platforms. The question is can I use the same catalogs and sessions on an external drive with C21 on the two platforms.

Hi Philip,
I only work in sessions and yes, sidecar files are usable since
these are not platform dependant. :)0 -
Hi Philip,
IMHO, "Nikon Shooter" just forgot to mention the "small print" when using more than one OS with Capture One. (I do use Capture One on macOS and on Windows)
Please keep in mind that the file system structure is completely different:
Windows uses drive letters (e.g., "C:\...", or "D:\...") but in macOS everything can be referenced to a single directory [or it's subdirectories] (i.e "/", "/...")
If you want to use both systems, there are some challenges to take into account:
- Catalogues: if the images are not included in the catalogue, a relocation of the images will be needed (whenever you decide to work with the catalogue on the 'other' machine)
- Sessions: the editing info (in sidecar) is basically available on all machines, but the session database and the images need to share the same base directory (to which all references are done)
Sessions are surely easier to handle in such a multiple OS setup
My recommendation would be:
one computer holds the primary catalogue/session to which images (and the edits) are imported (from the secondary system). In that case, it would be best to use a session on the secondary system and (re-)import the images including their adjustments when using the primary system...

Ralf Crumbach: IMHO, "Nikon Shooter" just forgot to mention the "small print"…
Thanks for the precision, Ralf! :P0
