Why is upgrading Capture One such a pain???

I believe in Capture1 as a photo editor, leaps and bounds over Lightroom. The interface could be more user friendly but still a much better tool for getting my photos to look the way I wish. The biggest issue I have with Capture1 is the upgrading process!! Why do I have to dig up my license information and activate as if it's the first time, every time? Then I have to port in my old catalog just to resume edits. With the latest update, something was corrupt or incompatible with the new update and I lost the most recent adjustments. A setback I don't need! I only ever upgrade this app when I need to as I did this time in order to work with z7ii files. I love this program but dread migrating to new editions...
