adjument layers

hello guy,

I have a picture of my niece and i'm trying to adjust the background, and i was wondering how can i get a filled layer, but without hindering the picture itself.

    What do you mean by "without hindering the picture itself" ? A filled layer doesn't hinder anything. If you want to modify only the background without your niece, the best would be, indeed, to apply a filled layer to the whole layer and erase your niece (sorry !) from the mask with the eraser. Or, conversely, you can make a mask of your niece with the brush and inverse it.
