Nik Collection 4
Does Nik 4 work with C1? I have tried some various installation guidance online with not so great success. Thank you!

From what I have seen on the DXO Forums DXO have decided to focus their development efforts on the PS/LR market and other applications may work or not. Affinity Photo appears to work with NIK 4 currently.
Unless there is a statement from DXO committing to making the NIK suite work with other applications, as it used to, any further investment in NIK is probably not a good idea.

DxO provided an update to the Nik 4 collection where Silver Effects Pro and Viveza do not work well with C1. Here are a couple of workarounds (Note: these may not work under Windows OS, I am running Mac OS)
1. If you have a copy of Photolab (2,3, or 4), open it along with Capture One. From Capture One, select an image and 'Edit With" then select Silver Effects Pro or Viveza. Make changes in SEP or Viveza then click 'Apply'. The tif file will be updated in C1.
2. Open Silver Effects Pro and Viveza and standalone applications then open Capture One. Select image, 'Edit With' select SEP or Viveza. SEP and Viveza will now have the 'File->Save' menuitem available. Click Save, And the image will be saved in C!. You may have to wait for SEP or Viveza to reopen the file and display 'Things to know about TIF files' and click okay. As long as SEP and Viveza remain open, calling from C1 will have the 'File' meunitem available.

I will add that Gerald's two work around do not work around for me. Sad to say. I just retried the 2) workaround and what happens on my machine is that C1 edit with opens up a whole new version of SEP and Viveza and without the File->save options. The plug in version instead. The other two standalone SEP and Viveza that I started before I ran C1 are still running and they have the File-Save menu options, but they are not used when I do the C1 plugin call.

Kevin, are you running windows? I received the same info from another post about Nik 4. Seems these workarounds do not work under Windows 10. I am running Mac Catalina. One of the first workarounds I tried involved closing C1 after the TIF file was created the opening from a standalone instance of SEP. Not vary desirable. Maybe if we flood DxO with trouble tickets that will actually fix this issue.
Other good news besides Nik4 updates, Photoshop 22.4 - 22.4.2 will not work on my 3 year old laptop and Adobe's solution was for me to run 22.3.1 and they will gladly accept my $9.99/month. GPU driver cannot be updated to accomodate PS, but that is another issues.

Yes, I am running Windows 10... I posted this to the other thread about Nik.
I found a work around for Windows 10. First I created a very simple batch file with this as the contents:
"C:\Program Files\DxO\Nik Collection\bin\Silver Efex Pro 3.exe" %1
That worked if I use the Browse option in C1 with under Edit with or Open with.
But what a pain that is to do a browse every time I want to use SFX. So I downloaded a very simple free piece of software, Batch to Exe. It passed all of my virus and malware inspections. Came from here:https://battoexeconverter.com/
I then used it to quickly turn my .bat file to a tiny .exe file. I then did the trick required to get things to show up in C1's list of plugins.
Using Windows Explorer to find a .tif file on my drive. Then right click on the file and do an "Open with" and search about three or four levels deep in the Windows "what to you want to use to open this with" dialog boxes until I got to the option that would let me browse to the tiny exe I created. Once I did that, I then went into C1 plugins and found my tiny exe and added it to the plugins to be used.
It works and it runs the SFX as a standalone program and allows me to use the SFX File->save.0 -
Gerald.... I have never jumped onto the adobe bandwagon. I used ON1 for several years, until I got so tired of them breaking things with updates. My wacom tablet did not work with pressure sensitivity for well over a year after they broke it. I left ON1 and have been with C1 for several years now. I do have ON1 effects 2021, but I hardly ever use it. I did bite on the ON1 denoise product that they are getting ready to release. But other then C1, I mainly use a couple of the Nik products and Topaz Denoise.

Good find! If anyone is asking about Windows, I will point them your way.

DxO's response to ticket I opened with log files attached showing errors and warnings with C1 open trying to run SEP as a standalone, also log files when C1 is not active and SEP is called from PS plugin.
Thanks for your patience.
Unfortunately we can't assist any further with this this issue, since it relates to unsupported third party software. The Nik Collection still works correctly with the additional software which is listed as compatible, so all we can advise in this case is to contact the developers of those other programs and ask them to work on improving compatibility with DxO's products.
In turn we will record this ticket as requesting support for Capture One and On1 in future versions.
Kind regards,Steve - DxO Labs Support Team 1

I figured they (DXO) were done with it since they have that list of supported software and C1 has never been on it.
I did use SFX yesterday, using the "fix" I came up with for Windows. Worked just fine, so I guess I do not need a fix from DXO.Kevin
