Another disappointed Pentax 645Z user
LoggedI've been a loyal Capture One user since version 4 however it appears Capture One has no loyalty to us users. I recently purchased a Pentax 645Z for my fine art photography, only to find after the fact and much to my disappointment, that it's unsupported by Capture One. I would have thought that the moral fiber of the company was such that it was beyond the pettiness of a" buy our camera or else" mentality but I see that I'm wrong and disappointed yet again as I come face to face with corporate greed. If I wasn't sold on your software I wouldn't be wasting my time requesting that you reconsider opening it up to all cameras. As it stands I'm now scrambling to learn new software with which to process my files. If I could afford a Phase One it would have been my first choice but unfortunately, my checkbook sets the rules. If you won't reconsider your decision then this is goodbye. Thank you for the years of incredible images.

Hi Joe,
Thank you for feedback on Capture One - this is always welcomed and encouraged among our users and we appreciate the time you’ve taken to contribute towards the development of the software.
Every camera profile is carefully done in-house by the engineers in our R&D department and this takes a bit of time, but rest assured that it all done with the interest of making the best software we can.
I have forwarded your request for Pentax 645Z to our Product Management team as something to consider in a future release. Hopefully, your feedback contributes towards a future version of Capture One.

Joe,
One can sympathise with your disappointment but, as you are a long time C1 user, I'm surprised that you were not aware of the possibility that certain cameras are not supported (for whatever the reasons may be) and did not check the many sources of information available before your fairly expensive new purchase.
However, since Capture One Software and Phase One cameras now seem to be operating at something like "arms length" there may be changes in the future. Who knows?
I guess it is all down to how big the market might be for specific bodies (and lenses) and whether any technical information required is made available in some form and without cost to cover full functionality that users would expect.
In the case of your new purchase, one might presume that would include tethering as well as image processing so there may be some hidden constraints that make support a less attractive investment of effort?

SFA,
I shoot abstract street images so tethered is not a concern to me.
Since my exile I started working with DXO PhotoLab 4 and have been getting some pretty good results, although with more work than Capture One provides as a jump off point right out of the box. I left Adobe years ago and I'm finding PhotoLab makes up some of the Capture One image editing short comings I've been working around.
It would be nice if Capture One saw a way to profit in supporting the Pentax, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.
I do miss seeing the pop of new RAW images the first time they open in Capture One with just the baseline defaults. But as they say, all things must pass.

Joe,
I totally understand that you are not interested in tethered shooting. It's not something I do very often either.
However, in the context in which the C1 developers would need to make their decisions, it would likely be an important consideration.
I would guess that they have a pretty good view of the market that they set out to sell to. Also the stats for the number of users for each camera body and what sort of shooting they undertake. Investment decisions would likely be made on that basis for the most part.
I would love to see certain developments applied to some of my older bodies and lenses - but I doubt it would make commercial sense. I'm not about to ask.
Maybe C1 could do a deal with Ricoh for a personalised version of C1 that covers the Ricoh product range?

Phase One please add support of Pentax 645z to C1. We all know that there is a way to open 645z DNG files in C1 anyway, so you just make you clients nervous.
Thanks in advance!

C1 just blocks 645z DNG files. They prohibit opening the files. This is the main problem!

In support of Capture One, they do support the Fuji GFX line of cameras - it handles my 50S RAW files splendidly. At one time they were refusing to support any medium format cameras beyond their own, but that changed some years ago.
It would be nice if they added support for the Pentax - more is always better. If they have limited resources then it makes sense that they will try to support what is popular and/or newer.

PLEASE add Pentax 645z camera support for C1. As said by many C1 customers, if we could afford a PhaseOne... PLEASE.

It already supports P645Z. Install the latest update.
