The question ist wether 16GB of RAM will really help you in this case. I don't know what kind of pictures you are working that you need lots of ram. Maybe is a problem of C1. Maybe a problem of the memory manager.

Well I know that the M1 seems to be more efficient with memory but on the other side when I think how long I wish to use one computer and don't know how is the usage of memory of apps in the future I would had taken 16GB. And think about the memory is also shared for grafic where higher resolution also needs more memory. But this is an other theme.

Well, there are numerous examples of people who demonstrated that the effect or usefulness of 16 vs 8 is practically not existing on these machines - and they handle much bigger files... I don't even have really big RAWs, they have 18-19 MB each.

I guess the memory usage in C1 needs a little extra work and a minor update.

this is not about ram but virtual memory usage,  the system and other apps need enough disk space to run.

315 GB free SSD space are available, that should not be a problem.

when a system has not enough ram it uses the virtual memory and does not shut down, this only happens when your disk is full. you can check this with the activity monitor.

I did. There is plenty of disk space left.

No I got the same message. I have Intel Mac and 40GB of Ram. When I looked my memory usage with iStat Menu there I saw a usage of 50% of memory. After this message I had to restart the System...
