Importing 90K images recommended ? does C1 recognize subfolders in metadata searches ?
hello,
I have now 90K images in Lightroom catalog. I am not interesting by migrating catalog to C1.
My images are stored in D:\photos, dated subfolders 2007...2021 in which i have dated sub-subfolders "2021-06-10_birthday"...
Q1. does C1 remain fast when importing 90K images in its catalog ? I did that with Luminar AI, and it became awfully slow and unstable.
Q2. when i do metadata searches based on "D750" camera or "JPG" format, does this consider the sub-subfolders or the root only ? This was a criticize of C1-2019 I read.
Q3. i would be more comfortable to proceed year by year (ie:2015 fodler with 10K images). however, if i do that for each year, how can i make a sort over all years/photos ? i have lost the root D:\Photo in that process

Quite a few things depend on your local system and your own expectations ("fast" , for example). May I suggest you download a time limited C1 trial version and test it thoroughly in your environment. Then come back with specific questions related to your observations.

hello,
Just purchased C1 1-year subscription and 145 styles.
I have looked some tutos about C1 and it seems not too difficult to use when we know where the menus and buttons are located :-)
So, now, I wonder how to proceed with C1 import. Do i start with new 2021 images ? do i import some years ? do i import 90K images while i won't perhaps edit very old ones anymore... This depends if C1 creates a catalog of 90K images and load a huge catalog everytime i open it...
best regards
marc

If I were to use C1 in catalog mode (won't happen, I stick to sessions) I would probably have LR export chunks of a few hundred images to separate LR catalogs and then import those catalogs into C1 just to get the hang of the processes required to organize images in albums etc.

OddS.-Having watched a few tutorials and webinars regarding catalogs and sessions, I'm curious as to why you're sticking with only sessions. I just started my 30-day trial and started by creating a small test catalog. After working with and trying out some of the catalog functions I'll create a session.
I'm really looking for input. From watching two one-hour webinars, one dealing with catalogs and the other with sessions, it seems both have advantages and serve different purposes. What's your take?

A few reasons. The first reason is one of principle: I do not want my image processing software to also be my catalog software. I process images in several applications and appreciate the power of a separate catalog.
C1's metadata functionality is not made for users like me, I need a different tool for metadata. Metadata is catalog stuff, I do have metadata and catalog functionality outside C1.
A session is flexible and forgiving with respect to file feed. I never "import" files in C1, I have other software push image files to a session folder structure where I want them.
