Performance issues / " stalling" during edits

So, I've got a fairly beefy machine (i9-10900F and an rx-3070 video card, 32 gigs of ram, etc. etc.) and I keep having capture one freeze the UI during edits.  It happens every 2 or 3 seconds, for maybe 250ms.    If I crop the photo and just move the crop around, every 2 or 3 seconds the crop will stop moving for a 1/4 second, then catch up to the mouse.  If I move the capture one window around on the desktop - no freeze.  If I move any other app around, no freeze.  The CPU is at maybe 10%, I've closed all other windows down, etc.  Hardware acceleration is enabled (although disabling it makes no difference).  I've got all updated drivers, software, etc.  Has anyone seen this / have a resolution?  It's driving me crazy.

    Perhaps your anti-virus or anti-malware software is involved. I exclude the directories I use for photos from mine.

    Wired or wireless mouse?

    I disabled anti-virus and that didn't seem to make a difference, and the mouse (while wireless) continues to move on the screen, it's just the app that doesn't respond.
