Purchasing C1 Fuji then upgrading laptop
Hi,
I have been using the trial of C1 Pro which has now ended. Once I got used to the software I liked it and how it handles my Fuji RAW files.
I’m thinking about purchasing a perpetual C1 licence, but I may upgrade my MacBook later in the year. If I deactivate C1 on my laptop, can I activate it on the new laptop? I don’t want to have to buy the software again.
Sorry if this is a stupid question!
Thanks

There’s no such thing as a stupid question, Rosemary. Yes, you can deactivate C1 and reactivate the same license on a new laptop. No need to buy a new version just to do that.
Note that whenever a major new version comes out, usually at the end of the year, you’ll have to pay the upgrade price should you want to upgrade. The upgrade price is roughly half of the full price, but again: upgrading is up to you. Smaller updates are included. A lot of people assume that a ‘perpetual license’ means they’ll get lifetime free upgrades, so I just wanted to clear that up before you press the ‘buy’ button :-)

Hi Emile, thank you very much for your helpful reply 🙂
I have thought about the subscription but I think that the current version meets my needs. It’s good to know that if I get a new laptop I won’t need to buy the software again. I’m guessing it’s easy to deactivate and then activate C1 again on a new machine?
I’m waiting to see if there will be new MacBooks released this year or next year.0 -
Yes, it’s quite easy to deactivate. If you forget, you can always log into your account online and deactivate your old computer that way.
Another thing to factor in is OS upgrades. C1 v21 might not work on next year’s MacOS. They updated v20 for Big Sur but I wouldn’t gamble on C1 updating v20 for Monterey. That doesn’t mean it won’t work, but it’s not sure either.
Decisions, decisions… ;-)

Hi Emile, That’s a good point, I hadn’t considered that! I’m still in a quandary. I wanted to avoid the subscription model, but it will end up costing more if I purchase software that isn’t compatible with the new OS. 🤔
