Photo Mechanic 6 and Phase One IIQ Files from a P45+ - Preview quality poor
Update & Correction - This post is aimed at users who have seen David Grover's recent Webinar on Photo Mechanic 6 and its integration with Capture One Version 21. It is also for those who have been looking at PM6+ as an alternative to Media Pro SE - the discontinued Phase One (but now part of Capture One portfolio) Digital Asset Management program.
Original Post - I have tried to use Photo Mechanic (Version 6) to trial sorting through IIQ files from a P45+ back at speed. I had hoped that when I click on "I" on a Preview image I would get a deailed photo and I should be able to check composition, focus and colour, However when it came up it was a low res pixillated view which was only worsened by Zoom and did not improve with wiaiting - so its not a slow draw issue.
Photo Mechanic say that the IIQ embedded JPEG is tiny and almost a thumbnail, hence the low resolution. As no JPEG files available this is as it is and cannot be fixed.
However when I loaded Sony ARW/JPEG into Photo Mechanic 6 the Preview was JPEG and the Zoom likewise and hight quality. Fast and usuable.
Lesson here - IIQ files cannot be used alone in Photo Mechanic 6 but all other camera need RAW & JPEG enabled to get best results. The quality of embedded JPEG varies so relying on the embedded thumbnail/JPEG is risky if you need to assess images quickly.

This is a forum for Capture One, not Photo Mechanic.
PM never render raw file images, but rather shows you thumbnail and preview images embedded in each raw file. Some camera makers, Nikon and others, embed a full resolution preview image in each camera raw file. At least one camera maker, Sony, embeds a low resolution preview and some camera makers do not embed any preview image at all.
I guess you could produce accompanying "preview" jpeg files for your P45+ files and keep them in the same folder. Jpeg sidecar files so to speak. PM should be able to pair them if their file names match, except for the file name extension.

William,
You seem to be writing about a Phase One camera concern.
However, this is the Capture One software forum.
It might be useful to post your observations in the Phase One cameras forum that, these days, is hosted separately on the Phase One website. I would imagine there may be a higher percentage of people interested in and valuing the comments over there than will be found here.
